Whom among us thinks the corp fascists will go quietly in 2008.
They have gone to a lot of trouble and expense to craft the government so that they, thru the President, have complete control. I don't believe they will politely turn over a unitary executive presidency to the dems.

I think there is a good chance that a "crisis" will occur that will necessitate the Commander in Chief to suspend presidential elections for up to a year until the "crisis" is under control. He will get the full support of the SCOTUS. Martial law if necessary.

And if you really want to get weird, Chaney will resign and John Bolton will be appointed VP. Then Schrubby will resign.

Go ahead and tell me i'm nuts. I hope to hell i m.

1. Not unless there are clearer signs of impending
economic collapse. The early signs are there. If it looks like their whole house of cards on a foundation of consumer debt is starting to come tumbling down, they'll nominate Brownback and try to lose.

If not, then expect a real fight. Any party that was willing to turn itself into an interstate racketeering organization to seize power is not going to go at the will of the rabble.

8. This administration has already researched the 'legality' of suspending
elections... in case of a terror attack at the time of the 2004 general election.

The PNAC plan is for decades of Conservative Control. We're talking empire at home as well as abroad.

The neocons are tightening the noose of control of the press, spying on citizens, etc.. Hell, we still have secret prisons and torture years after they have come to light. There is no political will to stop these criminals.

They will overcome these 'bumps in the road' (Gonzales, RNC emails, etc...) and steal yet another election and insert their puppet who will continue to pursue the 'global war on terror' to keep feeding the gaping maw of Halliburton, KBR, CACI, Raytheon, who will keep giving millions to Republican officials.

14. I have believed since 2001 that they will NEVER relinquish power.
They will find SOME excuse to suspend elections or steal them again in 2008.

Bush will either NOT leave, or Bushco will see to it that another just like him gets installed.

16. No, we'll just have a "connected" Democrat shoved down our throats.
Who's "connected"? I'm not sure. We aren't supposed to know. You could say the only "unconnected" President since JFK has been Jimmy Carter. But I have my doubts about him as well. After all, he ushered in the era of de-regulation which has done so much damage to unions and working families ever since. I am very skeptical of Hillary because of Bill's conservative economic record. Obama seems like an outsider and so does Edwards, but I'm quite confident they both have had contact with the powers that be to make sure they don't get assassinated if they were elected.

20. I would guess that the demo candidate that has the most financial backing
is a tool of the money. The corporate fascist will give big money to back a democratic candidate that will not regulate them. Which candidate has the most corporate backing?

18. I've heard this kind of talk at least since the late 50's
and I'll bet it goes back a lot longer than that. During the Eisenhower years we said "now that they've got it back Big
Business will never let go again, likewise in the Nixon & Reagen years but that pesky Constitution protects us from
corporate fascism a lot better than the Republicans and you guys think.

19. Sorry to be pushing the negative but the Constitution is a document.
If you hadn't noticed, Bushco has been ignoring the Constitution and most of the general public don't give a shit. For the sake of argument tell me how we would dislodge the neocon fascist if they choose to not give up power?

Clue: Someone that supports the Iraq War, the Patriot Act, CAFTA and NAFTA. Someone that has major corp backing.

22. You're nutz.
While I wouldn't put something like this past the squatters, you have to remember that "corporate fascism" is the trough out of which most of our "elected representatives", of both parties, feed.

So while I believe that arbusto® & Co. will go in 2009, "corporate fascism" ain't going anywhere, not this cycle anyway.

Let's hope I'm wrong (but we both know I'm not).

30. I agree that corporate fascism will be with us until the revolution. But I think
the corporatists have found a happy marriage with the neocons and are using the Christian Taliban as their brown shirts. The corporitists will support a democrat for president to cover their butts but they much prefer republicans.

31. I'm worried about the future...
.. as much as anybody, but I like to worry about things that are actually likely to happen.

Take a serious economic downturn for example. Or an ongoing battle with extremist groups who decide to "bring it here".

I've been hearing the martial law/suspended elections talk since the day I got here and as far as I'm concerned it is 100% pure D tinfoil.

Maintain control? You betcha. With overt tactics that will alarm Republicans as much as Dems, no way.

32. Nah, it's too late.
They needed to have done it last year. I really think that they did not believe they were going to lose the congressional majority, but since they did, AND public opinion is so strongly opposed to them, anything they try would be ( I hope!) quashed within 24 hours. Ultimately, someone would have to be able to convince the military brass to enforce their will, and I don't think ShrubCo can do that now.
