1. I presume a portion of the guard rail ....
punctured the passenger compartment at the point of impact, which would lead directly into Gov. Corzine ... How awful is that ? ....

I've lost some friends to such things, and as much as I admire the man; NOT using his belt ? ....

That was foolish ....

PLEASE get well Jon ....

2. Gov. John Baldacci's (D-Maine) SUV rolled over...

and he came out with minor injuries, because he wore his seat belt (and the SUV didn't ram into any hard surfaces, it just rolled over).

3. What about the other passengers? How badly were they hurt?
I haven't heard anything about the driver or the person in the back seat. Wonder if they had their seat belts on.

5. Godspeed to the Gov. If he had been wearing his seat harness,
his injuries would most likely would have been minimal.

I suspect that the airbag deployment caused most of his rib-cage injury...

6. I hope Gov. Corzine recovers soon
It'll be tough... but hopefully he'll have the physical, mental and spiritual fortitude to deal with the recovery process.

7.  I understand that the red truck that started it all hasn't been found
It looks like the driver didn't check his blind spot before pulling into traffic from the shoulder. Did the white car that hit Corzine's stop?

:(

8. From the accompanying article
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 12:24 AM by rocknation
...(Corzine's children) said they were heartened by the support...from...the state and nation...(T)hey...departed from a written statement that had aimed for a more optimistic tone, with words like “encouraged” tucked into the text, and instead offered a far more raw and measured response...
Good for them--but then again, pretension has never been an abundant trait in New Jerseyites. And if they didn't write the optimistic statement, who did?

...(D)octors and state officials did not mince words in discussing Mr. Corzine’s situation...that was much worse than initially reported, with the unbelted Mr. Corzine jettisoned from the front passenger seat into the back...(H)e lost about half the blood in his body...
Well, SOMEOBODY sure minced words--I was made to believe he had only a badly broken leg. Am I now supposed to believe that no one noticed his broken ribs until twenty-four hours later?

11. the fact that he is on a ventilator...
....signaled bad news to me. Hopefully it was just for post-op reasons, but I don't think it's good, having worked in an ICU for half a dozen years.
