Who here wants the occupation of Iraq to end now???
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 07:31 PM by AnOhioan
I know the conventional wisdom is that the votes are not there and the best we can do is present a bill to the chimp that funds the war almost until his term ends.

I also know that most of the DU community would like to see the troops home now.

What puzzles me is that we seem to accept NOT getting what it is we truly want.

We seem to accept 2nd best.

Cogressman Kucinich has introduced HR 1234...a bill that would bring the troops home, not in Oct or May of '08, but in the next few months. The money to do this is already ibn the pipeline...no new funds would need to be appropriated.

The plan has 12 main points...which can be read at http://kucinich.us/iraqplan

Currently the bill is in committee with 2 cosponsors.

Instead of congratulating ourselves and our Reps. on passing a bill that continues funding well into next year, would it be so hard to contact your Rep. and ask them to co-sponsor HR 1234?

We elected a Dem majority last November...a big part of that shift was the public's attitude towards the occupation. Our Reps need to know why we sent them to DC. I do not think we sent them there to continue an illegal occupation until late '08. Just my two cents.

5. So do I....that is why I am puzzled about the lack
of support for Kucinich's bill.

4. I do. I would like to see it over now. There
couple Dem candidates I will support. I like Dennis Kucinich but he is not my presidential favorite--if that is the point of the thread.

6. This thread is not about Pres. favorites.......
It is about asking DU to call their Reps and ask them to back a bill that ends the occupation.

8. The cosponsors are...
Bob Filner of California and William Clay of Missouri. If you think Tierney would be receptive, by all means contact him, and let him know your feelings.
