Obama Calls for Imus' Firing

WASHINGTON -- Democrat Barack Obama on Wednesday became the first presidential candidate to call for radio host Don Imus to be fired for making racially and sexually charged comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team.

The Illinois senator told ABC News he will never appear again on Imus' show, which is broadcast on CBS Radio and MSNBC television.

"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group.

"He didn't just cross the line, he fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America," said Obama, the only black candidate in the presidential race.

2. Yes, he is. But he's just a symptom. It's time to go after the disease.

Our candidates should introduce a bill to re-establish the Fairness Doctrine. And legislation should be written to break up the communications monopolies, banning corporations such as GE from ownership.

Unlike jumping on the Fire Imus Bandwagon, that would take some courage, but be in the best interest of the Republic.

3. GO OBAMA GO! Edwards's comments were very appropriate, too:
"If you tolerate this kind of language in your presence, you are essentially sowing the seeds of intolerance, and I think all of us have an obligation to speak out and condemn this kind of language when it’s used, no matter who uses it."
