Email from Hillary concerning Imus racist statement
Dear XXXX,

When our children are young, we teach them to dream big and reach for the stars, and that if they work hard enough they can accomplish anything.

This year the Rutgers women's basketball team defied the odds and lived up to their dreams, providing inspiration to every little boy and girl beginning to pick up a ball or open a book. These remarkable young women reached the pinnacle of success and won the hearts of basketball fans everywhere with their grace, skill, and poise. They are role models deserving our praise -- and our support.

Don Imus's comments about them were nothing more than small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism. They showed a disregard for basic decency and were disrespectful and degrading to African Americans and women everywhere.

Please join me in sending the young women of Rutgers a message of respect and support. Show them that we are proud to stand with them and for them.

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/respect

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

You just don't call hard-working scholarship athletes ho's. You just DON'T.

6. Perfect statement from Hillary, substantive and supportive..
and why she is my candidate of choice. Her experience in dealing with these matters is priceless.

Reports from the noon news are saying the issue with Imus is just the beginning. He is being called out for all the defaming inflammatory statements he's made in the past against women, besides his latest foray into nasty racists comments. Public opinion is saying he's been sanctioned before and he hasn't learned his lesson. Advertisers are pulling out of his show until further notice.

14. I have a problem
her statement does nothing for me understanding her views when Carville met with Imus today. He is an adviser to her team. She should have pushed for them not to go on Imus this morning. I am very disappointed.

26. not that this makes any difference

because facts often don't matter at DU, but to be precise Carville is an HRC supporter - not an adviser to her team.

From http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0704/04/sitroom.01.html this:

* snip *

SUZANNE MALVEAUX: Let's start with you, James.

You said that you do not advise Hillary Clinton or her campaign, but that you publicly are a supporter.

JAMES CARVILLE, CNN POLITICAL ANALYST: That's right.

2. I'm suprised she didn't say ...
"Don Imus's comments about them were nothing LESS than small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism."

Somehow, the wording of her sentence minimizes her disapproval, unless I'm really missing something. Not that Imus cares what she has to say about him, I'm sure.

9. Strange
That dismissive slap on the wrist. Maybe the senator doesn't want to upset her corporate masters, who are the same conglomerates that keep the bigoted entertainer on the airwaves. Why would she want to bite the hand that feeds her?

11. Come on now......
Senator Clinton was showing support for the Rutgers team and at the same time calling Imus what he is. It has nothing to do with the conglomerates. The message is going to the team.

13. What took her so long?
It took her a whole week to respond to the bigot's attack, and this is the best she could come up with.

Took a whole week of careful revisions and rewrites to get the senator's wording just right. Wouldn't want to offend anyone.

something. If she really felt this way. She should have immediately come out against this.

16. She was away on vacation Easter week...
and what difference does it make how long it took to respond, as long as someone responds. How would you know about revisions and rewrites, that is just your speculation.

17. How would I know about revisions and rewrites?
Because it is the wooden language of lawmakers and lawyers, and I have worked for both. It takes a lot of chiseling and filing and sanding away to come out with a polished product as bland and insincere as this.

18. I found it very touching and certainly not bland....
or insincere. No matter what she said you would rip it apart, so there is no use arguing over this.

19. I would rip apart the product of course, if it's a bad product
But I wouldn't rip apart the creator as a person. There's nothing personal in any of this.

3. That's a nice statement to add to the list of candidates' remarks.
Now - it's Pelosi who is getting ads run against her at this moment so please Dems, let's give Pelosi a WALL of backup for a change.

8. a week of wall to wall coordinated attacks against Pelosi needs more from all Dems.
especially since an ad campaign is now in progress against her.

Where are the barrage of press releases and candidate statements and tv interviews asserting Pelosi's rightness in this showdown?

I am sorry but this Imus situation is being used by media to blunt what was already a weak Dem defense of Pelosi on this important battleground issue with WH.

7. Both Carville and Begala think we ought to move on and forgive Imus. Interesting when Hillary is
apparently one of Imus and his juvenile cohorts favorite targets. Sadly, something of a disconnect here for Carville and Begala who are Imus regulars.

25. Further proof, though, that just because they're Hillary supporters doesn't mean they agree with her
about everything. I know a lot of times when Hillary-supporting talking heads say something controversial, everyone acts as if they're presenting Hillary's opinion or position on the subject. I think this is evidence of the fact that, while they support Hillary, they don't speak for her on every subject!

24. I really like her call to support the young women.
People are so busy chastising Imus - and deservedly so - that I think his victims have been lost in the shuffle.

They have handled this bit of nastiness with grace and dignity, and Hillary is right in that they should be sent a message of respect and support.

My name is AtomicKitten and I approve of Hillary's message.
