US shrugs off Iranian/British diplomacy and ratchets up the warmongering rhetoric

The United States Thursday shrugged off Iran's release of 15 captured British sailors and warned it faced tougher sanctions if it does not bow to UN demands to halt its uranium enrichment operations.

...

"I would view the detention of the British sailors as not in line with their willingness to work with the international community," the White House national security council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said, referring to Iran's leaders.

"What would show that they are more in line with the international community is to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions, and suspend their uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities," said Johndroe.

...

And US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack accused Iran of using "hostage-taking as a tool of its international diplomacy."

With all of those drums a-beating it's amazing anything else can be heard.

1. Misleading headline, huh?
What's this "U.S." shit? This isn't the United States ratcheting up pressure, it's a damn fool Administration, which hasn't the backing of Congress nor two-thirds of the American public.

2. Will the US retaliate?

Come on big mouth Bush. Are you going to actually DO anything about our greatest and bestest allies being treated in such a manner??? Are you Bushie boy??

Or are you just going to continue to rant and rave and create chaos around the world, and play manipulative games that include destroying the character of service members if that's what it takes.

I hate these people. I hate what they're doing to those British troops.

3. Pretext for peace?
Totally reversing the expected spark for the Bush incursion, this event offers an opportunity to open up a British/Iranian dialog that would not have to appear like acting under Washington's gun. THAT is what scares and enrages the poised war machine. The biggest ally has a separate course open on a sidebar to discuss peace. Blair seems to be sensing this.

At the same time Iran could be turning the Saudis as well with less open deals. Quickly turning toward calming down the Israelis could leave the Big Fish attack force gasping for air on a sand bar.

I hope people everywhere are encouraging this regardless of the howling of the WH and the brass. it is time for the Persian rug to be pulled under the feet of this dangerous administration. We are too close to the brink already. Iran's big card would a moratorium on nuclear development coupled with lots of other issues and obvious dangers that a war would cause.

The American people are only treated to the abysmally grotesque spectacle of the well fed media Gunga Dins ONLy engaged in running about slaking the thirst of neocons for the good of Empire. Time to end it all for this hellishly absurd repeat of utterly discredited Iraq War propaganda.
