This race to raise the most money repulses me.
You know what would impress the hell out of me? If Obama or Clinton (or any of the other candidates)announced tomorrow they were taking 50% (or more) of all that money and donating it to a special fund to fix conditions for veterans at Walter Reed, or for Katrina victims, or for homeless kids in America who go to bed hungry, or for some other worthy cause. I'm not holding my breath. In American politics today its all about the money and the unwritten subtext is penis size. Who has the most $$$, who has the biggest. The whole process disgusts me. Thanks to the Bush junta and the neocons our democracy is going down in flames around us and the candidates are frantically engaged in a maniacal fund-raising war.

1. It would be against the law
for them to do that. The money is not theirs to do with as they please.

I'm really glad they're raising so much money. For one, it shows a real desire for change that so many people are willing to contribute and secondly, whoever the nominee is will need a lot of money to win the general election.

2. A candidate who doesn't succeed at this can't beat the Republican nominee.
And Obama's doing it right. He's taking no donations from lobbyists or from PAC's.

3. And 90% of his money came from donations of $100 or less
I think this is great.

4. Ditto. I am a fan of publicly financed races with limited funds and equal airtime for
all candidates. This has just gotten obscene, the whole process of buying your office of choice.

6. So it would be better to unilaterally disarm and let the GOP win?

7. When one of the dems wins
then they can pass a law against this but until then I can only wish them a huge pot of gold.

9. I blame Clinton for this frenzy.
As I understand it, her campaign strategy was to raise a huge amount of money and send us all a message of "inevitability". To me this means that it's all $$$ and not ideas that makes the front runner. I really resent that and I'm glad it's backfired on her.
