Bush shows off lameduck feathers

For President Bush, being in the politically weakened position he found himself in after last year's congressional elections, on top of being a lame duck, means being challenged seemingly at every turn.

He finds himself now in a vicious loop that just reinforces perceptions of his weakness.

The cycle goes like this: Because of his dwindling power, lawmakers, and not just Democrats but especially Democrats, are willing to take him on.

This causes the president to try to publicly assert his influence or what's left of it.

When lawmakers blow him off, that just adds to the increasing perception of Bush's growing impotence. Which then leads to more challenges.

The latest example of this is the situation surrounding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against Bush's wishes.

2. Just gotta break your heart, doesn't it?
Little Lord Pissypants being shunted off into irrelevancy at last. And what, oh what will his media cheerleaders do now on the day after graduation, when all the other kids in school are no longer afraid of them, or subject to the whim of their power?

Too bad, so sad.
