I find these fundraising figures very encouraging...
I haven't looked but when is the last time Democrats so thoroughly smoked Republicans money wise...

Seems to me we are seeing 100's of thousands of people sick and tired of Republicans, putting their money where their mouths are...

1. I find the numbers extremely sickening, SaveElmer
This country has gone very, very wrong when two parties plan on spending two billion dollars on an election and we call that democracy.

2. Don't think so...these are individual donors...
Not PACS, not corporations etc...

Between Hillary and Obama alone 130,000 people gave money to Democratic Party candidates this quarter...

I find that very encouraging!

And I find it a more important use of money then say the billions companies spend on say toothpaste advertising....

8. Actually, the Clinton campaign accepts money from PACS, lobbyists. Obama does not.

4. One individual donor at a time...
150,000 people donated to Hillary and Obama alone...

5. I'm less concerned about where the money comes from...

...than I am about the fact that one cannot aspire to the presidency without the ability to raise obscene amounts of money. Getting elected to public office has become a pay-as-you-go industry.

Oops, meant to reply to #4 rather than the OP.

7. Hey I am all for public financing...as is Hillary actually...
But there are some significant hurdles to overcome getting one enacted...

Not the least of which is the constitutional question...the Supreme COurt has ruled that campaign contributions are free speech..and has applied these to corporations, PACS, etc...I disagree with this...however, it is very hard to say that an individual giving money to the candidate of their choice is not free speech...

Second, is the structure. How would it be decided who gets what money. Right now in some states it is done by some demonstrated fundraising prowess, in others it is by how your party did in the previous election...none of these are perfect...

In the here and now, I am very encouraged that this many people felt comfortable parting with their money to support Democratic candidates...

6. If we have them beat 100 fold that still won't be enough $$$...
If they have incredibly low appoval, that also won't be enough. It means absolutely nothing imo. Untill the voting method is changed (we lose the machines). They will continue to win important elections if we don't get a handle on this. November was a blunder on their part, they thought they had it completely under control but cut it too close. It would have been even more of a landslide.

9. I don't think Democrats have ever beaten Republicans at fundraising. Ever. Until now.

But the GOP still has control of big media, which is worth more than all of our funds.
