Why would Clark drop out...
If, according to Drudge, Clark knew about the Kerry situation. Drudge quotes Clark as being a source for this.

Makes no sense.

Thoughts?

But he makes a convenient proxy for the RNC smear machine, doesn't he?

4. Clark isn't the source, ABC, TIME and others were already working on the
story...he put Clark in it just to try to squish him out completely!

9. Yep...
Drudge lies about Clark saying something like this for a couple of reasons.

1) Makes Clark look like Republican, slamming the Dem leader quietly.
2) Clark would look like he's at the level of Drudge if he re-enters the race.

This knocks out Clark for good while, if it ever makes it to the national media, puts doubt in the minds of voters. If the DNC keeps Kerry, he's weakened...

Thank you Mr. McAuliffe - your plan worked to perfection! Anybody have a Howdy Doody picture that we can Photoshop Terry's noggin to?

17. I think your analysis makes sense
My Repuke co-worker said this makes Clark look bad, like he's not a real Dem. That's the whole point of tying this to him. The story may be true, but Clark is not the source.

5. here's my theory
I think Clark dropped out because he was forced to drop out by some in his campaign, and that he also didn't want to be associated with the Kerry affair rumors coming out of his camp from Lehane.

There is no way he would drop out.

7. If Clark knew ...
... I think that he would still make the decision to bow out. Even moreso, he might bow out because he sensed that the campaign would become so dirty. I don't think he would feel comfortable succeeding on another's misfortune.

By tomorrow this time the story will have totally disappeared from his site never to be mentioned again in all probability.

Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 01:39 PM by xultar
A close friend of the woman first approached a reporter late last year claiming fantastic stories -- stories that now threaten to turn the race for the presidency on its head! "http://sludgereport.com"

If ya wanna get mad call the friend.

Clark was FORCED out. Who allows a campaign staffer to come out to the media in the lobby of a building to reporters hanging around and say you're going to drop out before you make your decision?

21. The more I think of it, the more I think the Clark staffers were a bunch..
of assholes.

Clark should have stayed w/ us drafters and scorned those
jerks in Washington.

Bah! What a waste.

18. He is being smeared
just like Kerry is. The RNC knows what they are doing. Hopefully this nonsense will backfire on them. Frankly...neither of them should comment on the story until questioned by "legitimate" media.
