Since When Has Drudge and Enquirer Become Reliable Sources?
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 01:10 PM by WiseMen
An enormous % of anti-Kerry attacks seem to based on innuendo, rumor or rank speculation.

Now it seems that it is OK to use the "Drudge Report" and "The National Enquirer" as valid sources here at DU.

Looks like the Republican tactic of oozing slime to be broadcast by democrats such as people we know is working again in 2004.

1. The Drudge Report was the catalyst for nearly bringing down a presidency.
Funny how everyone's forgetting that Lewinsky was just a blip on Matt Drudge's radar back in '98, and look what happened.

Later.

5. I agree.......
They have to be taken seriously. Look at Drudge and the Enquirer with Limbaugh's pill popping. The Enquirier also deep sixed Gary Hart's campaign. Or was that the Star?

I thought the NE also had another major scoop on something else withink the last year or so but can't think of it. Possibly the DC sniper?

2. Agree
I know some of the freeper types are probably going bananas over this stuff but until I see it picked up by AP or a reputable news source I'm not concerned.

That said, if it is picked up and there really is something to this, then Edwards is sitting in a much better position. As someone who has Edwards as their number 2 pick, I am glad he is hanging around just in case as an awesome backup.

7. not as reliable as the mainstream certainly but still relevant
still worth paying attention to. Who broke the Limbaugh/pills scandal? The enquirer and the NY Daily news.

We can't ignore any of this stuff

Drudge, as much as we dislike him, has also scooped the mainstream press time and time again. Ignore at our own peril.

10. Never, nor has newsmax or Rush or someone like
Howie Carr or Andrew Sullivan or Ann Coulter - all of which have been used in the last few weeks to back up DUers opinions.

Never thought I'd see the day.

11. Since he's reported stuff _I_ wanna hear, of course.
Occasionally, Drudge has the edge for legitimate news, but mostly is just sleaze and lies. I LOVE sleaze and lies.

21. Because we DON'T KNOW
and neither do you. If it's true, it's a serious problem. Wishing otherwise doesn't change that a bit. If it's not, we'll know soon enough.

14. ABC News, Washington Post
were just a couple of the sources that I heard (on a radio show) were investigating the story.

17. Since the standards for good journalism were flushed down the toilet.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 01:32 PM by lib4life
It amazes me that a tabloid hack like Drudge gets treated like a real journalist. Although, much like the Enquirer, he has blown some major scoops (Monica, etc.) He's a dirt merchant, but I guess everyone's bound to find something if you look hard enough and long enough.

19. Slightly off topic but
I watched McLaughlin group this past Sunday and at the end when they have the predictions, Tony Blankley from the Washington Times predicted there would be two indictments soon in the CIA leak story. (And he's as right wing as they come) In other sources the names Scooter Libby and and someone Hannah were mentioned. Could this bull be a preemptive strike to keep that story from exploding. The media can't seem to keep their hands off a sex story and the CIA story just isn't up to snuff.
