2. They are all over the place. Haven't you seen them
21 million dollars from 500,000 contributors and Hillary Clinton 26 million from 50,000. Edwards got 14 million but it did not say from how many.

From WaPO article this AM:

"One candidate who did not announce his fundraising yesterday was Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who has held a crush of fundraisers and shows up in second place in many Democratic polls."

5. I thought that was an estimate / projected fugure...
the last story I saw said they had not been released...

http://www.sptimes.com/2007/04/02/Worldandnation/Clinton_leaps_money_r.shtml

One candidate who did not report his fundraising Sunday was Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who has held a crush of fundraisers and shows up in second place in many Democratic polls. Nor did any of the Republicans who have entered the race.

3. A delay already?

Man, I'm completely outta the loop.

Haven't seen the news in a couple days.. Haven't been on DU lately..

Last I heard, the announcements of how much each candidate raised were due out April something-or-other..

Are they seriously out THIS SOON already??

Wasn't the deadline for collecting dough for the first quarter only yesterday?!?

8. I wonder if there is a reason for those who have released them
already....simple bragging or meant to discourage others?....I mean, a lot of them are saying one raised 36M...but from the way I understand it...12M or so is from funds she already had left over from her Senate run...why should our house be for sale every 4 years...?? are we happy with that being the case...no longer best person for the job..you can only be prez..now, if you have the most money...shameful..

9. Rupert Murdoch donated a big chunka change to Clinton's campaign
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 01:30 AM by larissa

With her negativity ratings as high as they are on the national level (as compared to other Democratic candidates), hey - - - - if you're a billionaire Rethug - - -

- - - - Talk about an investment in their future!

They want her --as OUR candidate-- and they're willing to pay whatever it takes to ensure that happens.

12. Going to the highest bidder?
That's sure what this race for money looks like. What about a race for the office because you have the best ideas how to help this country? That seems to be missing from this circus.

11. Some speculation...
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 02:35 AM by obamian
According BarackObama.com, he has had 83,531 donors who have made 108,095 donations. According to the Hotline Blog, "Sen. Barack Obama raised more than $21 million dollars -- maybe more."

Here are two possibilities for why he hasn't announced how many donations he has received:

1. He hasn't finished tallying the contributions. The online donations are counted immediately, but those received by mail might take a long time to count. The Obama campaign has received a greater quantity of donations than other campaigns, and therefore is taking more time to count the donationss.

2. The campaign decided to wait to announce. Maybe to get more press, or to make the donation numbers a longer lasting story.

This might just be wishful thinking: but if his numbers were worse than expected, I'd think they'd announce them right away with all the other candidates because by not announcing they increase the anticipation for what his numbers are and make it into a bigger story.

I really have no clue...

The real donation numbers will all be known by 4/15, when the campaigns must report their numbers to the FEC. Some of the numbers that the campaigns have already announced are inflated. For instance, Clinton's number of $26 Mil includes donations to her gen election fund.

13. The FEC numbers are the ones they don't want explored

For instance, Clinton's number of $26 Mil includes donations to her gen election fund.

Many of these may be coming from various lobbyists who are feeling very sure of her candidacy and hedge their bets and give to both parties.

They want to pump up the bank of the candidate who they have been close to and already dealt with in a Senate race.

I only begrudge such donations if it influences behavior. We do need to watch this.

15. I think it's because he has poor organization and they're having to audit the numbers.
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 04:25 PM by mnhtnbb
which is a sign of the fact that he's never run for national office.

Hillary knows how to do this. Edwards knows how to do this. That's why their numbers are out.

22. Waiting gives him a day to have the media focused on him
He would have had to share the spotlight today and it would have watered down the importance of the remarkable sum he's raised. Pretty savvy, if you ask me. ;-)
