Democrats' Pork Problem ("Tax and spend")

I watched the Republicans use this garbage for years. We know better. The Republicans got into office in 1994, based in part on their fiscal responsibility, and they have wasted more money than ever - at record levels.

What worries me is this current debate over the military spending bills. The Democrats in Congress don't seem to think this GOP trick will work this time, so they are not actively fighting back on the issue. Please someone tell Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid not to underestimate the stupidity of some voters. Every time you hear that pork shit, you gotta mention that the Republicans broke the mold on wasted spending. They are in no position to open their mouths on the subject of pork. But if we don't fight that fight, we mind find it plays into their hands.

1. There was a HUGE surplus when Bushco took office

Now we're what, five TRILLION more in debt?

The Repukes don't know the definition of fiscal.

2. The NYT paid subscription had a great .pdf file

showing the funding that was added on to the supplementary bill. Much of it in the House was used to restore funds to programs that had been seriously underfunded for the last 12 years. The biggest ticket was for housing programs.

The Senate showed more traditional funding with some GOP corporate welfare thrown in.

Some of the funding in both houses was for agricultural disaster relief after this very bizarre winter. Both houses voted for dairy industry subsidies.

The worst thing I saw was extra funding for the stupid antidrug programs in the schools. Conservatives on both sides must've added that one. There's nothing like a failure of a program to appeal to conservatives!

Added funding from now on really should have the sponsor's name and party affiliation attached to it. It's the only way we the poor slobs who pay for it all will ever have an idea of which party does what.

Notable for their absence were increased funding for religion in schools, bible verses posted everywhere, and the miserable failure of abstinence propaganda, including those creepy ceremonies where little girls dressed as brides promise their hymens to Daddy.

There was little "pork" that was objectionable, meaning pork directed to one poobah's district. There was much that was admirable, like the increased funding for housing.

it scares voters away from backing Democrats, while promising something for nothing. But why can't we use it? Spend and tax Republicans..just give them your credit card and they'll tax you for it later on!

It looks like a lot of pork to me. My issue is that its a whole lot less than what we've been getting from Republicans. But to say it isn't pork... ?

I believe it includes money for Katrina recovery and for fixing Walter Reed. There is some agriculture aid such as drought recovery.

It is NOTHING like the bridge to nowhere kinda pork!
