WaPo: Panel Asks Rove for Information on '08 Election Presentation
Panel Asks Rove for Information on '08 Election Presentation

By Scott Higham and Robert O'Harrow Jr.
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, March 30, 2007; A05

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sought more information yesterday about a presentation by a White House aide given to political appointees at the General Services Administration that discussed targeting 20 Democratic congressional candidates in the next election.

In a letter to White House political affairs director Karl Rove, the committee chairman, Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), asked about the Jan. 26 videoconference by Rove deputy J. Scott Jennings, which was directed to the chief of the GSA and as many as 40 agency officials stationed around the country.

Jennings's 28-page presentation included 2006 election results and listed the names of Democratic candidates considered beatable and Republican lawmakers thought to need help. At a hearing Wednesday about the GSA, Waxman said the presentation and follow-up remarks allegedly made by agency chief Lurita Alexis Doan may have violated the Hatch Act, a law that restricts federal agencies and employees from using their positions for political purposes.

In yesterday's letter, Waxman asked Rove who prepared the presentation and whether Rove or Jennings consulted with anyone about whether it might be in violation of the Hatch Act. Waxman also asked whether Rove or any members of his staff have given the same or similar PowerPoint presentations to political appointees at other government agencies.

1. If the Dems had not won the election Rove would have pulled off all of this.
We would be a one party system forever.

3. Absolutely.
I was just again thinking today how profoundly (profoundly!) relieved I was to have some Congressional oversight.

4. I still can't figure out how the Dems won if Rove has everything rigged.
How did Rove let the ballets actually be counted?

6. You can only shift so many votes
before it becomes obvious. That's why Randy Rhodes kept hammering on the need for an overwhelming win.

7. I agree, the dem win must have been a landslide. Rove couldn't rig it.
But it made him so mad that he began to fix the system
even further via the DOJ attnys and GSA etc.

He did think he would win in 06, the Dem win came as a shock to him.
Never again he said.

8. You can rig a Presidential Election because
it can be decided by a localized area (Florida,Ohio)

All of their focus and political pressure was applied there.

In a Congressional Election, there is too much area to cover.
Much harder to thwart the Will of the People if they decide to exercise it.

Have no doubt, they did what they could.
I'm sure dozens of seats were siphoned off in the House. And they nearly stole Montana and Virginia in the Senate.

But there's just too many of us to hide our majority.
Through smoke and mirrors they make it appear as if there are equal numbers of us.

Think about the people you know. You know this assertion is wrong.

Our Voice will continue to be heard, increasing in volume until even GWB can hear it in his dreams...

9. What will stop them from rigging 08? The infrastructure is in place
all over the govt now. DOJ and GSA are only two of the agencies
involved. Rove could still pull it off.

11. Big difference was that Terry McAuliffe was willing to ignore election fraud
in 2002 and 2004 because he wanted Hillary to have a clear run in 2008.

Dean's DNC and all us election fraud activists kept a higher awareness on election fraud issues, including the machines. The RNC couldn't cheat as blatantly in 2006 as they did in 2002 and 2004.

12. But if he ignored election fraud, what made him think she would have a clear run anyway?
Not a smart move.

I think Dean did play a big part in a more honest election this time.

13. If they had their person at the DNC before 2008, they would've worked on it.
I just don't see any evidence of Terry McAuliffe working to secure the election process in 2002 or 2004. All the evidence proves it became worse.

They ignored it on purpose and if Hillary wins the nomination, you will see all those who ignored it in 2002 and 2004, suddenly make it a serious issue in 2008.

10.  Symptoms of the same. Every branch of the government was enlisted, along with MSM
corporate money, crooked machines thugs...The more I think of the November results, the more of a miracle they are (you bet they were a landslide!)
