This rant is geared towards those of you who keep talking about "not having the votes." This is the same buffoonery that got us to the point where we're at now, with 7 years of Bush in office. Imagine if at least one Democratic Senator had the courage to do the right thing on that day?

No, the CBC certainly did "not have the votes" that day, but they damn sure tried, and their efforts will go down in history.

1. .
Maybe the right to vote and having your vote counted is more important to certain groups with a certain history...
Anyway, seeing that scene in Michael Moore's movie really made me speechless and angry.

2. Agreed.
With the votes (even the losing ones) comes a chance to make a speech, explain your position, try to sell the public on doing the right thing.

What some DUers excuse as 'keeping their powder dry' just looks to the rest of America like agreeing with the Bushies.

4. That's exactly what I'm getting at
When I see all the compromises and civility taking place on the Hill, I start to wonder who is really on my side. All I can do is guess. Kucinich is the only guy who seems to be angry right now and fighting for change.

3. They seemed to think that bush was going to be OK, so why fight it.
The black caucus knew better.

6. Correct. That CBC moment may have been the last act of the Old American Republic
November has been heartening, as has what has happened since, but I am not sure the fundamental problems have moved an iota.

Hope, especially now, springs eternal.
