The Wockner Wire (clarification from 365gay.com on Kerry's stance)
Upsetting John Kerry

On Feb. 9, National Public Radio's All Things Considered asked John Kerry, "Would you support a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as a heterosexual union?" Kerry responded, "Well, it depends entirely on the language of whether it permits civil union and partnership or not."

All Things Considered host Melissa Block had prefaced her question by pointing out that Kerry's "home state of Massachusetts has said that same-sex couples do have the right to marry."

I quickly filed a story with 365Gay.com saying that "leading Democratic presidential contender Sen. John Kerry is not necessarily opposed to a federal constitutional amendment to permanently ban same-sex marriage."

Within minutes, people high up in the Kerry campaign began calling me. He was referring to the Massachusetts Constitution, not the U.S. Constitution, they said.

"Senator Kerry opposes a federal constitutional amendment, he has always opposed a federal constitutional amendment on gay marriage, and if someone listened to an NPR interview and believes otherwise, then he was reacting to a different question, a question about a Massachusetts amendment, not a federal constitutional amendment," Deputy Campaign Manager Steve Elmendorf told me.

1. A federal constitutional amendment is coming.
Heterosexuals have to take a stand on this one as a matter of principle! Thousands of years of precedent have to count for something and that precedent will if it comes to a showdown!

3. eons of precedent should have helped the dinosaurs, too
but it didn't.
this is about equality -- and that's all.
there is nothing ''different'' about gay relationships that should prohibit us from marrying. those relationships are as important to us as straight peoples are to them.

2. Pedantics
Anyone who supports ANY amendment, federally or state-wise, to deny civil rights to anyone, is not my candidate. Period.
