In Constitutional Crisis - Impeachment equals checkmate
As plainly state by Gerald Ford, High Crimes and misdemeanors is whatever the current House of Representatives defines it as. Failure to comply with with Congressional subpoenas, regardless of any decision of SCOTUS could still be considered an impeachable offense by Congress and there is no over-ruling that.

Shrub can refuse all he wants, but when it all comes down to it, Congress always has the last word. And the longer this (mis)Administration fights co-operating, the more they show what crooks and liars they are. At a point where they would actually file Impeachment articles, even the Repubs would be ready to get him out of office.

Issue the subpoenas Congress, the tide is with us on that one.

1. Yes, it's the remedy for government officials
that work outside the parameters of the constitution. If anyone's wondering, that applies to the bush administration.

3. I've seen so many thread comments about "what if it goes to SCOTUS"
simply put, we don't need the court to rule with us - the ongoing discussion while it makes it's way through the court processes will be enough to finally get the Congress to do their job and impeach them.

And it will be clear to the American public that ShrubCo is covering up, look at the backlash against Nixon. They can try to spin this as "partisan politics" all they want, not even all of the 30% backwash was buying that last night from the presser

2. Is it true that, if the admin is in contempt of Congress that
this would be decided by a judge named Taylor in DC. I've heard that he's a *ite all the way. Would he be able to let them off on the charge of contempt of Congress???

4. That applies to criminal charges of contempt, but Congress can
call wearing a blue dress an impeachable offense if it so desires. They are the sole people according to the Constitution to make the determination of what constitutes a High Crime or Misdemeanor.

7. Don't underestimate the power of group-think, rationalization, self-censorship, and denial.

While I would love to see your prediction proven to be right, it's hard to see it when the high crimes Bush and Cheney have been http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/21">committing plain sight have failed to move them to impeach.

We are far more likely to make impeachment a reality if we stand up and relentlessly challenge the rationalizations that are immobilizing them.

As long as they remain trapped in a bubble of group-think, rationalization, self-censorship, and denial, our demands for impeachment will probably just keep sliding off like water off a ducks back. We can inject reality into their bubble, but more of us are going to need to challenge the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=337814">rationalizations for inaction that are so pervasive in our own ranks "out here." More of us are going to need to get in the faces of our so-called "leaders" too. Their defenses are powerful but not insurmountable. If we realize that it is up to us, we are far more likely to do what is necessary.
