Chertoff already has been confirmed by the Senate (DHS), does that mean the process would be different, than say a Joe blow, who would go thru the whole process?

Nosferatu Chertoff can't see the light of day.

Here he is at his swearing in:

2. Well if Chertoff is nominated
it seems that it may open up the whole Katrina situation again and it is doubtful if the bushites want that nightmare scenario brought back into the public's awareness.

Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 07:29 PM by FogerRox
Chertoff already went thru it, does have to go thru it again if he gets the nod to replave Gonzo, IIRC the answer is no.

Michael Chertoff was unanimously approved for the position of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security by the Senate on February 15, 2005.

He has to go through confirmation again. No shortcuts.

9. Ok, so he would have a good chance because
Michael Chertoff was unanimously approved for the position of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security by the Senate on February 15, 2005.

Alberto Gonzales was confirmed 60-36 on February 3, 2005 with all of the "no" votes coming from Democrats. He received the second most "no" votes of any attorney general nominee. His predecessor, John Ashcroft, received 42 "no" votes just four years and three days earlier. However, Ashcroft had more support from Democrats, receiving 8 "yes" votes while Gonzales only got 6.

I not quite counting the votes, but sort of.

10. I don't think Skeletor gets any shortcuts.
First, the nomination is sent to the Judiciary Committee, chair by Patrick Leahy. Leahy can decide whether to bring the nomination to a vote, hold debates first, or table the nomination indefinitely.

I'm thinking that Leahy would probably bury Chertoff's nomination and tell Bush to try nominating someone who isn't a Nazi.

11. When I heard that, my jaw dropped.
Are there honestly no other candidates out there??? He royally botched Katrina, so let's move him up the ladder to the AG post? Is this guy even a lawyer? He looks more like a door to door salesman. Toilet brush, anyone?
