inspire strong emotions and his vision appears "too good to be true". Not everyone appreciates his blend of idealism and pragmatism. That may be the trait that gives people a feeling of anger when they hear him.
Watch what happened after he sent the message to media mogs that he didn't support their role as the imperial reality generator. Don't think he can't tick off some folks. It would have been a good option in your poll. (maybe)
but I think the media turned on him for good after Dean made the remark about giving OBL a fair trial if or when he is caught. When the media raised a ruckus about it things went south fast for him. I believe it marked the beginning of the end for Dean's campaign.
Though a perfectly reasonable sentiment to have, I really wish he had kept that remark to himself. The public only sees in black and white on certain things. To try to convince them otherwise on such a major hot-button issue is committing political suicide.
