"I AM NOT A CANDIDATE...YET"!! WKC
)
Democrats

The Movement
New Democratic Majority

General Wesley Clark's flirtation with a run for the Presidency continued last night at DL21C's 'Road to the White House' bash at Taj; one of his biggest applause lines was this post's headline, including a very dramatic pause. Applause started flowing after the 'yet'; well, I say 'applause', but 'whoops and hollers' would be more descriptive. Azi Paybarah's take is here. Lipris from The Albany Project was there with a camera, so we can expect video sometime today, I guess.

5. blah
I know people are excited about him to the point of worship, and I can appreciate his positions. But I really doubt his ability to run a seriously competetive campaign.

7. If he doesn't run, you will see Clarkies
spread across the field of candidates. We agree on Wes Clark, his leadership, principles and abilities, but not on every other thing in life and politics. Clark supporters have a very wide range of beliefs.

12. That's what I thought. It doesn't seem to be an ideological affiliation for Clark (although Clark's
ideological affiliations are very admirable). It seems like Clarkies are as likely to jump to a more progressive second choice (like Kucinich or Edwards) as they are likely to have a much more conservative second choice (like Hillary or Richardson).

If Clark runs, he'll be on my short list, but because of his progressive values, and not because of his military biography (which is admirable, but just not something I value as highly as shared moral and political views).

14. That's right
His supporters go from fairly far left to fairly conservative, with the bulk, in my observation, being progressive or liberal. Myself, I'd probably go for Richardson, because I do think in this era we need a president with significant foreign policy and executive experience, and the other candidates, while good in very many ways, don't meet the grade... for me.

16. I'd expect that the bulk of Clarkies would be progressive or liberal as the General is progressive
I have no problem supporting any of the candidates in the general election (except maybe Gravel, and I could go with him - too- if he'd drop the crazy tax scheme), but I'd really like to see a progressive nominee, and Clark fits the bill for me, as does Edwards, Kucinich, Dodd, and Obama.

11. That's a tough one
I am a huge Gore fan and one of the delusional people who cling to the dream that he will step up and run. After him, Wes Clark is my favorite pick. I think he's great! After him.....sigh.....I really don't know. Howard Dean isn't running, Hillary ticks me off a lot of the time, I only feel lukewarm toward John Edwards (for reasons I would probably get flamed for, so don't ask) and I like Obama but can't feel that pumped up about him. (I guess he doesn't address my pet issues that often or something) so I guess I'm still shopping. :)

9. I hope he runs
At this point he's the only one I'd consider volunteering for or contributing money to. So far the current contenders are either roadkill in the general election or completely uninspiring.

22. Yes he is!!
He is running all over the Country...and has been for 2 years stumping to change the Congress!Plus, getting the message out about the fiasco of Leadership in the US by BushCo. DO you ever listen to him. Regardless if he runs for President or NOT, he should be listened too as, he has been stating the truth since 2002, and no one listened! Now we hear all the candidates, using his idea's and words. Like, we need diplomatic and Political interactions with our adversaries, with the threat of military!! The media shut him out, per instructions from the WH, because he was against the war and this administration decision to invade a soveign country.

21. Clark didn't say that.
Someone in the audience added "yet" after Clark said "I'm not a candidate." Then after the yet he said, "I haven't said I won't run."

Just to clarify. Inspiring speech...just watched the video.
