2. Well...
what were some of the things about Clark that attracted you to him as a candidate? I can go on about my guy all night, but I don't know what issues matter most to you.

3. Kucinich.
Even if Kucinich doesn't win, your vote will help establish the progressive left as a force to be reckoned with in our party.

If you don't want Kerry to win, then transfer your vote to Dean or Edwards, depending on who's on top in your state.

4. you're a smart guy and you know about the others
I say you need to sort through all that you know and see how it lines up with yourself.

If you're in the dark about some facet or others thats significant then look for help there.

But I'm pretty sure you already know what the next step for you is.

If you're looking for me to talk you into anything, its not going to happen.

Good luck to you.

5. Dean
In 100 words or less:

In Vermont, pregnancy rates for young teens dropped 49%.
Vermont was the first state to institute a statewide protocol for abuse investigations. In return, Vermont saw a 45% decline in physical and sexual abuse of children. This included a 64% decline in physical abuse victims ages 0-3 and a 43% decline in physical abuse victims ages 0-6
He has consistently, irrefutably argued that what a woman does with her body is her own decision and none of the government’s business.

That is roughly 78 words, my son threw the count off chatting.

23. A second hundred words.
Thank you Mobius, I appreciate your willingness to hear more.

"1) as of the year 2000, Vermont was rated 2nd best in the nation for the quality of medical care provided to Medicare beneficiaries
2) as of the year 2003, Vermont was ranked 3rd best in the nation for prescription benefits provided to Medicare beneficiaries
3) signed into law managed care consumer protections that are among the toughest in the nation
4) established the “Success by Six” program, in which Health care providers, social service agencies and others cooperate to connect parents with resources ranging from job training to parenting classes
5) overhauled Vermont's traditional system of paying for public schools with local property taxes, shifting funds from rich towns to poor towns through a "sharing pool," sparking an explosion in education spending, which has been up by 40% since 1997."

That's a few more words than 100, they had to be included to finish the sentence. If you want more, say the word.

Kudos to you for looking into options, no matter what.

25. Let me rephrase, Mobius
I'm in the habit of talking points. Dean makes life better for regular Americans. That is why I support Dean. He makes life better, and that affects my kids and grandkids.

That's less than 100 words.

7. Kucinich
For integrity.

For people.

For universal health care,

REAL support of public education,

For worker's rights

For social and economic justice

For the environment

No one has a better platform.

And no one is as tenacious, consistent, and courageous when it comes to voicing, acting, and voting for the platform.

12. You asked for it I say Dean he closely matches the general
on social issues and monitary policy. He is outside the DNC/DLC media machine which abused the general so badly and his is grassroots campaign also. Vote your conscious in primary and vote against the shrub in the GE if you still have any faith in the system. Stay connected to the generals troops and keep active remember all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

13. Kerry
Women's rights marches
Organized one of the first rape victim units in the country, 80's
Reorganized the prosecutors office to focus on hiring female lawyers
Sponsored domestic abuse legislation
Made women's small business center program permanent
Against partial-birth abortion and all anti-abortion legislation
His campaign is run by a woman, he was endorsed by the only female Lt. General in the Army, General Claudia Kennedy.
Your rights and dignity as a woman will be protected with John Kerry as the President.

14. No. Can't do it.
For several reasons.

One, 100 words wouldn't do it. Not even close. I could write a book about Dean, quite literally.

Two, if you've been paying attention to most of the things written here about Dean from other than Dean supporters, it would be a miracle if you have not have been seriously negatively impacted by a bunch of propaganda, distortions and lies (even if you're not consciously aware of your negative conditioning). I couldn't possibly overcome that in 100 words or less and beyond that you need to get it for yourself -- from primary sources (i.e., Dean and the campaign -- but especially Dean).

Three, you DID say this is a first step, and I seriously hope it is, because otherwise it would be a real superficial way of picking a candidate.

So here's my pitch for Dean:

Go read (or better yet view) his speeches. If you're reading them, read them as if he means every word he says, because he does. These speeches are filled with deft or clever (but common) political rhetoric that sounds good. When he speaks about an American Restoration, he means it. Also remember that he writes his own speeches. If you're viewing them, I would think his authenticity and sincereity shine through. They do for me.

Here are some of my faves (the print version -- you can find links to the video versions somewhere on the blog or official site):

15. 100 words on Edwards:
John Edwards grew up with working Americans and spent his career fighting for them. His voters come from small towns and rural communities. As President, he will represent these people with common sense policy he will be able to explain in plain language. On foreign policy, he says, “Every child, every family in America will be safer and more secure in a world where America is looked up to and respected.” It doesn’t take insiders to run this country. The government is of the people, by the people, for the people, and it’s time to take the White House back.

That was actually kind of fun. If you want to hear it in song, click on the link below:

Otherwise, just write your vote it. Most states allow it. Check with your local elections board first, though. Who knows. ABB....ABB.....ABB.....with this "frontloaded primary due to McAuliff, it's getting to be slim pickin's out there. Dean, Kucinich, Edwards,Kerry, Sharpton.

if you like college students, either Edwards or Kucinich. I'm a college student and I can't afford to pay for college. I rely on grants and financial aid from the govt. If Edwards/Kucinich were President, they'd be able to help me and not cut my financial aid away.

Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 11:15 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
Best foreign policy and senate intelligence experience of the remaining candidates. Most reliable record on traditional liberal issues. Best plan for urban renewal and job creation. 100% rating from Human Rights Campaign, 92% rating from League of Conservation voters. Most committed candidate to alternative energy sources. The candidate most statesmanlike and able to repair our relationships with the UN and our allies. Candidate with the most inside knowledge about Bush and family which will be a plus in the general election.

24. Kucinich
Similarities with Clark:

Strong military, for defense
Reduce the defense budget
Reliance on negotiation and diplomacy
Public education pre-school through college
Alternative energy PLAN
and more.

Feminists, Greens, old-line conservatives, civil rights and liberties activists, independents, progressives support Kucinich.

and the kicker: Roe v. Wade litmus test for Supreme Court justices.
