Don't worry about the illegal FBI spying . . . Bush says Mueller and Gonzales will 'address' it
URGENT - Bush: FBI has addressed problems that led to illegal prying of personal information

DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer

March 10, 2007 6:46 AM

ANCHORENA PARK, Uruguay (AP) - President Bush said the FBI has addressed the problems that led to illegal prying into personal information on people in the U.S., but ''there's more work to be done.''

Bush, at a news conference after meeting with Uruguay's president, said he was briefed last week on the report from the Justice Department's internal watchdog that disclosed the FBI's transgressions involving a subpoena known as national security letters.

''My question is, 'What are you going to do solve the problem and how fast can you get it solved?''' the president said.

He expressed confidence in FBI Director Robert Mueller and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. ''Those problems will be addressed as quickly as possible,'' Bush said.

3. Let's have us a little investigation and let John Conyers or Henry Waxman
address it.

I'm sure Dubya wouldn't care WHO was addressing it so long as it's addressed. Right, Dubya?

5. Reid Calls for Accountability Over Bush Administration Abuse of Power
WASHINGTON, March 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid released the following statement on news today that the Justice
Department's Inspector General has concluded the Bush Administration
grievously abused its powers under the Patriot Act by misusing National
Security Letters.

"It is time to place meaningful checks on the Bush Administration's
ability to misuse the Patriot Act by overusing national security letters.
The days of Congress giving this Administration a blank check are over.
Congressional and judicial oversight protects the rights of innocent
Americans and does not hamper the government's fight against terrorism.

"From not providing our troops the equipment they need going into
combat or providing our vets the health care they were promised coming
home, to playing politics with our national security and justice system,
the Bush Administration has abused its power and the public trust, and it
has proven the need for accountability. Congress must once again serve as
the check on the executive branch that our Founders intended it to be."

6. Good for Harry. Let's hope for a swift follow-through on this,
but I'm glad to hear him weigh in this forcefully.

8. House Speaker Pelosi said House Democrats would honor their duty to defend the Constitution
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said House Democrats would honor their duty to defend the Constitution "by investigating the disturbing" disclosures.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the committee chairman, said National Security Letters "can do great harm to innocent people" when they’re misused. He vowed "to conduct extensive hearings on these findings, their significance and possible remedies." He said the findings might not have come to light if Congress hadn’t required the inspector general to monitor the letters’ use.

9. Yes. I heard Leahy on the news last night on this. He's pure granite
next to the slimey gravel of the Bush administration.

And less than a year before the first votes are cast in the Iowa caucuses.

Go, Democrats.

7. Back in the spring of 06 there was a security breech at E-Trade....
I was notified that someone or "entity" was able to hack into E-Trade and just look at some accounts. My account was one of them..... When I pressed the E-Trade security people they stated that the IP address originated from Great Britain.... My credit rating is still intact and I have had no illegal activity on my account. The only thing I was doing in the spring of 06 was heavily contributing to Ned Lamont and writing LTEs to the Courant about Joe LIEberman....

Were my civil rights violated.... was this my government snooping on my whopping retirement savings (<$10K)?????

Should I contact the ACLU???

12. Much like Art Carney used to "address" the ball:
HELLO BALL!

(my apologies to anyone under fifty who never saw the Jackie Gleason/Art Carney golf skit...)
