Domenici Lawyers Up
By Paul Kiel - March 7, 2007, 4:00 PM

What a small world. Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) has nabbed Lee Blalack, best known as Duke Cunningham's lawyer, to represent him in the Senate ethics investigation, The Washington Post reports.

And they note the obvious irony:

Blalack, a partner in O'Melveny & Myers LLP's Washington office, is an experienced defense lawyer. As attorney for Cunningham, who is serving a sentence of more than eight years, Blalack dealt with one of the federal prosecutors who was later ousted, Carol S. Lam of San Diego.

1. Hi babylonsister!
Sam Seder did an excellent 1/2-a-show on this this a.m., including recordings of some of the offending parties.

Interesting that the enabling legislation ( a rider in the Patriot Act) came from Senator Spector's office. Just goes to show . . . . :(

28. When? In 2008? 'Cause if this goes on for even a little while, Dems
can make hay out of this next year.

And if not, they should make whatever hay they can make of it ANYWAY. Because if he's not in a position to be reelected, the spill-over won't look good for other New Mexico GOPers - like maybe li'l miss heather? Isn't she the one nicknamed "Leather Heather"?

Randi Rhodes was talking about her having been in a tight race for reelection last November. The spill-over could take her straight to the unemployment line in '08. And if, as Randi said, she was/is being groomed as domenici's successor in the Senate, well, as they might paraphrase from that song - "Whoops! There goes another Senator's job..."

And they've been talking about Archibald Cox amidst all this. VERY good. VERY, VERY good. :headbang:

9. A resignation would be sweet. What is New Mexico's procedure for
replacing senator?

Oh how an extra Democratic seat in the Senate would take some wind out of 'uncle joe' Lieberman's sail, eh?

8. Oh my
You might want to think twice about your choice of counsel there, Mr. Domenici; the last guy Mr. Blalack represented got eight years.

Unless, of course, you're trying to go Mr. Cunningham one or more better. Then by all means, go for it, you corrupt jackal.

"D" for defendant.

And when we refer to them as "Cons", it won't mean "conservative".

He was a "liberal" Republican until Reagan got in then he turned real nasty...

Whatever, he should lawyer up.
