The thing I find funny about the Kerry-Fonda photo
First, Kerry's not even sitting with Fonda. Heck, that sucker could be photoshopped. But who really cares because:

#1-The Bush camp is blowing their "Explosive" photo this early in the race.

#2-While busy defending Bush's AWOL they're desperate enough to try to pull out a 30 yr. old photo.

#3-While busy defending the WMD issue, they're desperate enough to try to pull out a 30 yr. old photo

#4-While busy testifying at a Grand Jury covering the CIA-Leak, they're desperate enough to try to pull out a 30 yr. old photo.

#5-While busy trying to defend the worst economic record since Herbert Hoover, they're desperate enough to try to pull out a 30 yr. old photo.

I liken it to: "I know we're a miserable failure, but you knew Jane Fonda!"

They are using this photo even though it was taken before Fonda went to Vietnam. Now Fonda herself is denying she knew Kerry.

#7 How about that Rumsfeld-Saddam photo. Maybe Saddam showed Rumsfeld the "torture chambers" and "rape rooms".

7. I agree with what you are saying.
I'd like some links to support the first statement as it would be helpful in order to combat the inevitable self-righteous right-wing e-mail I'm going to get.

Heard Hannity discussing this on the way home and I know our local republican party mouthpieces will be running with this in the morning.

Thanks in advance...

You need to view a short ad to get a salon day pass to read this, but it is a great column by Joe Conason

http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2004/02/10/kerry_smear/index.html

In it he covers the fact that the photo was taken in 1970, tow years before her trip to Vietnam.

Here is an excerpt: On Monday, Rush Limbaugh published a photograph of Fonda at what appears to be an antiwar rally, under the headline "John Kerry With Hanoi Jane in September, 1970." And indeed, a blurry face about two rows behind her does resemble the young Kerry.

But Limbaugh, like so many who attack Kerry for working with Fonda against the war, distorts reality. Fonda didn't travel to Hanoi until August 1972. Obviously that was two years after the September 1970 rally and, more important, a year after she joined demonstrations led by Kerry and his fellow vets in Vietnam Veterans Against the War. By the time Fonda visited Hanoi, Kerry was running for Congress in Boston. There's no evidence that he worked with Fonda after her notorious trip. (If Monday's rant indicates Limbaugh's state of mind, he is absolutely unhinged by the prospect of renewed debate over Vietnam. Might his hysteria have anything to do with his own embarrassing escape from the draft?)

Also, the Washington TImes even admits this photo was from 1970, and printed a quote from a Kerry aid who reminds that this was before Jane FOnda became "Hanoi Jane".

I can't wait for the inevitable e-mail from the sanctimonious a**holes who've never even worn the uniform. The article is great ... ready to be applied where and when necessary.

4. What is extraordinarily hypocritical about it is...
that Bush claims that his coke habit pre-1974 and being AWOL during the same period (hey, wait a minute!) aren't issues, but what everyone else did during that time *is*!

6. 100% Correct
Great analysis of this. That's 100% right on all counts. Looks like Bush's crew are desperate to drag Kerry through the mud with anything they can. Between this, the whole botox thing, the "liberal from Massachussets" thing and the "arrogant socialite" thing it seems like they are grasping for air when it comes to putting together a serious attack that might work on Kerry.

This Fonda one is really ridiculous considering the crap Bush pulled during the same period.

8. This is a big shocker!!! I'm not voting for Kerry now . . .
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 05:48 PM by boobooday
Oh my god, not . . . not . . . JANE FONDA!!!!! OH MY GOD! NOW I HAVE TO VOTE FOR BUSH!

Don't these desperate dodos realize that only people over 40 even know who Jane Fonda is, (I know, I work with college students) and only a tiny minority of those people (if any) have strong feelings about her?

We should always counter with the Bush family photo album, and all those pictures of Christmas and Ramadan with the Saudi Royal Family (on alternating years).

9. LOLOLOLOLOLOL
I just can't wait to see what lame crap Bushco pulls out of their a$$es in September.

"Osama?", you say? Isn't there a pool on a website somewhere where people are placing wagers on the date and time Osama is marched before the cameras in handcuffs? Either that or they'll find Osama's bones in an Afghan cave under the remains of some bunker-buster.

13. Wolf Blitzer says "...Kerry is receiving criticism from some...
...for his activities after his Vietnam service. Yeah, criticism from YOU Wolf, you fucking asshole! You will no doubt show it a hundred times a day, just like the "Dean scream".

The Vietnam war was another (sorry, Tom Wolfe) 'piece-a-shit' war, just like the one in Iraq. No one needs to apologize for opposing it.

Nice to see the fascists are so desperate that they now have to start defending the war in Vietnam. That should keep them quite busy.

16. It is absurd
Kerry got more stars in Vietnam than * did in kindergarten book group.

This must be a trick, because I like Kerry more the more of this kind of nonsense I see.
