Democrat Howard Dean Rips Kerry on Attack Ad
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=4337589

<edit>

Kerry "supports the kind of corrupt fund raising, politically corrupt fund raising mechanism, that George Bush has also employed," Dean charged at a news conference the day after suffering double-barrel defeats to Kerry in Virginia and Tennessee.

Dean hopes to begin what would be a dramatic comeback in Wisconsin's primary next week but a local poll has shown him running far behind.

Dean said "the link is unassailable" between Kerry and Torricelli, although he later added "I have no idea" if the Massachusetts senator had prior knowledge of the spot.

Dean, a staunch opponent of the Iraq war, made reference to Kerry's vote for a congressional resolution authorizing the war in Iraq.

"First he sided with the president on the war ... now we find he is more like President Bush than we ever imagined," Dean said. "This is exactly what we don't need in Washington. I got into this race because I wanted to stand up and give the Democratic Party some backbone and character."

2. This kind of "questionable" behavior by the
party insiders is not why I support the Democratic mission. I am very disenchanted by these antics ....they are way out of the realm of our phylosophy..... God knows we have had enough of this stuff in the past few years ....thats why I want *bush sent back to Texas.

This behavior poison's the water we Democrats drink. I do not support it any more that I support a felony.

28. Kerry's Statement from Dec 15th denouncing Osama ad from poster, Nathan
Kerry's statement from Dec. 15 denouncing Osama ad from Nathan Newman.

December 15, 2003

I'm Satisifed

Just received this letter from the Kerry campaign. It asserts no connection to the Osama-Dean ads and condemns them-- not quite strongly enough for my taste but enough:

Thanks for sending John Kerry your thoughts and concerns about the recent advertisements sponsored by Americans for Jobs, Health Care and Progressive Values. The John Kerry for President Campaign is not involved in any way with these advertisements. John Kerry does not agree with independent expenditure ads by nameless, faceless entities, in fact in his 1996 Senate race, Kerry kept them out of the campaign. Using Osama bin Laden in this ad is certainly inflammatory and a distraction from a real issue of who has the foreign policy experience and vision to lead the country in a dangerous world. John Kerry agrees with you that this campaign should be about the issues facing America...

The slowness of the response (36 hours) does show that the campaign still needs to get up to Internet speed.

3. This is sad.
Dean ran such a noble campaign when he was the frontrunner. He criticized his opponents - who didn't? - but his main focus was on defeating Bush. The others picked up that focus and did better because of it, most notably Kerry.

Now it appears that, because his chances of winning are growing thin, Dean feels called upon to resort to unproven slurs. Sad. I'd have voted for that man in a heartbeat if he'd been the nominee, and I was hoping that he'd take the high road and preserve his viability for next time.

11. Sadder that he is speaking the truth.
Sad that fellow Democrats running for President are so desperate they will run the kind of ads that make Rove proud. There is plenty of proof about those ads...

4. Like Dean's the most unbiased source on Kerry
He says Kerry's "on the take". He says Kerry is corrupt (then virtually endorses another IWR/Patriot Act voter, John Edwards). Nobody cares about what you have to say about Mr. Kerry, Howard Dean.

And Kerry and Clark are Republicans too. I wish Dean would stop this sniping so he doesn't cost himself a future in the party.

12. I care.. and I'm precariously close to not voting in November..
And.. I know there are plenty more that may stay home after seeing the scummy tricks of fellow Democrats. Push polling, midnight robocalling, forged emails, nasty fliers, and the scummiest of all.. the Osama ad. Why exactly am I going to vote for another Democrat??

14. Because Dean will.
He has repeatedly said he will. And because you don't want four more years of Bush in the White House. No Dean supporter does.

at this rate, he will go down in the history books having returned to a family practice lansing boils off the butts of disgruntled Democrats.

Not every Democrat agrees that Sen. Kerry is, or will become, a strong candidate to face Bush in November. Next question?

27. Yes,
who do you think will be nominated instead, and under what scenario do you see that happening? Clark is out. Edwards is Kerry's stand-in, pretty much, except that he's from the South. And by hollering, "Cheaters, cheaters, cheaters!" Dean is scarcely making himself look presidential. If he was taking the high road, I'd say he still had a chance.

So why do you want Dean to hurt both himself and the Democrats' chances to win in November? Even if he somehow manages to pull off the nomination, this kind of mudslinging could only hurt his chances in the general election.
