Gen Kiley out at Walter Reed
Along with firing Harvey, it seems Gates, to his credit (so far) has also decided to fire Kiley, or so it is being reported by Jim Micklichewski (sp???) (aka "Mick"), the NBC Pentagon correspondent.

Mick is usually a pretty straight shooter. He's reporting that Gates will not stand for sweeping dust bunnies under carpets. He's suggesting that Harvey went pretty much for being so stupid as to bring Kiley in as head of Walter Reed.

1. Do you think Gates is legit and really cares?
Or is this just a public relations SNAFU that they have to deal with?

7. In a word ....... no
I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

But I give him credit for what he's done ...... so far.

But as someone said later in this very thread, this needs to lead to serious criminal charges, breaking in rank, loss of pension, or whatever else is/might be appropriate.

15. Gates is doing some of the right things. Give him credit for that. He needs to do the rest now.
A good start is getting rid of the leadership that has known about this and had responsibility for it.

However, there's much more to be done and it will take funding and committment. It's not glamorous, like building big new weapons. It's basic stuff like hiring coordinators to coordinate the care our veterans need, to follow up with families and their needs, to fund the programs that they need, etc. Just daily, detailed, hard work.

If he fights for that stuff, then I'll really praise him.

2. being relieved of command is NOT enough!! they need to be court-martialed and sent to leavenworth
for allowing this situation to exist and doing nothing about it. weightman was only there six months, so what? he KNEW about it, and anybody who KNEW about it for 5 minutes and did nothing needs to be court-martialed if they are in the military, and whatever charges are necessary for the civilians--like rumsfeld, apparently.

by the way, WHICH company supposedly did the renovations? are THEY going to be charged, since it is pretty obvious they took the money and ran.

11. That was Harvey's plan. Now that Gates fired Harvey, Kiley's gone, too.

12. They're going to fire Kiley right after putting him back at WRAMC?
I think Kiley will still be around for at least a little while longer, at least until a replacement at WRAMC is found. I don't think his dismissal imminent, unless he resigns of his own volition.
