Can we take a break from the infighting long enough to come together
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 12:06 PM by jchild
to say a prayer for the recovery of the eight-year-old boy who was just shot this morning at his elementary school in Pennsylvania?

There is a thread in LBN on this, and it's on the news this morning. The child is barely clinging to life. Keep him in your thoughts today.

And to make this relevant to this forum, let's support a candidate who puts our children first, and who is dedicated to ending this kind of violence against children that is so prevalent in our society.

Please, no politicism of this tragedy on this thread. :(

2. Here, here!
If its one thing all factions here should agree on, its that we need to make this world a better place for the kids who will be tomorrow's adults.

5. It is very tragic
and prayers for the child, and for his schoolmates and his family, the crossing guard, and the entire community.

Not to detract from this in the least - I would like to share a story. About 12 years ago I was working in Detroit. Mid day I was commuting between job-sites. The all day news station was reporting that there had been three shootings (some fatalities) at three different Detroit public schools: two high schools and one middle school. One was in the school, one was on the grounds, the other was in front of the school where drug dealing activity lead to a shooting that just happened to be by the school (and, if I recall correctly, ended up with a student walking to the school caught in cross fire.) I was very shaken up (I did youth work) when I arrived at the second job site.

While the Detroit papers covered the story... the three shootings in a single morning at three different schools story didn't even make it to the Ann Arbor paper - a mere 45 miles away from Detroit. The story didn't make a mention in the national media. It was as if this was not a story, because it was perceived to be "normal" (?!) in Detroit. :(

So while I say prayers for these caught up in this tragedy... I reflect back and say some extra prayers for those whose lives were tragically altered about 12 years ago in a story that few noticed.

6. Yes, Salin, I agree...
What a tragic story. We have had our share of school violence here in Mississippi--it was much publicized, though. We need to pray for all of our children and for our leaders to do more to protect ALL of them.

7. Devils don't pray
But I'll be more than happy to ram a flaming hot pitchfork up the ass of whatever idiot put a gun in the hands of a child. :grr:

8. An adult shot the child on school grounds.
The child was hit in the face; CNN is now reporting that he is "clinging to life."
