2008 election: GOPers in Florida are preparing to get same-sex marriage on the ballot
I hope FL Dems are paying attention. Without same-sex marriage on the ballot in 2004 in Ohio, Kerry would have won Ohio. Ohio, Florida and Missouri are going to be crucial swing states for Democrats in 2008.

Snip ---

To date, the Florida Coalition to Protect Marriage, a political committee, received $300,000 last year from the Republican Party of Florida, more than half of the marriage group’s reported total.

Jim Greer, Crist’s handpicked choice to be chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, said he has not yet decided whether to contribute any more party money to the effort.

Florida has a state law banning same sex marriage, but supporters want it embedded in the Constitution.

Backers of what is called “the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment” are close to collecting the 611,000 signatures they need to get the proposal on the November 2008 presidential election ballot, subject to approval by the Florida Supreme Court.

The issue is considered vital to Republican efforts in mobilizing social conservatives.

1. (silly) same sex marriage has the experience and values our country cherishes

Same-sex marriage will make fine officeholder! (/silly) (sorry, I couldn't resist when you phrased the title of your post that way.)

On a more serious note, it seems that the glbt hatred has stemmed at least a little. Colorado's resident hatemongers, Wayne Allard and Marilyn Musgrave, didn't even introduce their anti-gay marriage amendment this year.

3. How dare they use gays to win battleground states.
This is fucking wrong. I can't stand how the GOP misuses me and others because of our sexual orientation rallying the religious right to come out and vote!!

11. Let's put abortion to a vote!
Even mentioning that idea scares the crap out of cons and Publicans, because they know the majority of Americans support choice.

14. We need a new amendment, no amendments on the ballot on election day
There should be a law against adding amendments to be voted on in 08 when the 07 elections are like 10 months away (sure there's not a lot of important stuff that make the news on the ballot then, but it's still the nearest election day).

This just disgusts me, I hope that they don't try to put this in my homestate of PA's ballots to.
