Out of respect, let's leave Clark supporters alone for a while
One thing I've observed since last night's announcement about Clark dropping out is a huge number of "join us" threads from supporters of other candidates. I find this a little insensitive.

My candidate has been pronounced politically dead several times since Iowa, and since then there have been multiple entreaties by supporters of other candidates to switch to their guy, often while the returns were still coming in. This reminds me of having a spouse die and then having someone hit on you at the funeral.

One thing that the Clark supporters have is a die-hard belief in their candidate, which I can certainly identify with. Since I didn't like it when it happened to me, I can only assume that Clark supporters are not too thrilled with the latest round of "invitations" from supporters of other candidates, including my guy.

Let's back off and allow these people to grieve and then come to their own conclusions about how they'd like to proceed. Out of respect.

1. True. It's tacky.
I don't think there should ever be "join us" threads. People are going to compare the candidates and make up thier own minds anyway, as they should. A plea to "join us" on a message board shouldn't be the deciding factor.

2. I bet most Clark supporters can still vote for him
I know Clark will be on my ballot come March 16.

3. Here, here...
I don't vote until June 1, but I am either going to vote for Wesley Clark or take my ballot home with me, frame it and remember this experience for the rest of my life.

4. I'm sure they will
In an astounding show of ignorance, my county in TN (Nashville area) actually had more votes for CMB and Lieberman than for Kucinich. The only one of the original 10 who was not on the ballot was Graham.

I agree somewhat with the premise of giving Clark supporters a chance to think things over, but many will have already made up their minds on a "second choice". We don't have to have the constant "join us!" threads, but I don't see a need to coddle Clark supporters, either. If they don't have a new choice, that's fine, but there's no need to tiptoe around them.

8. All I know
is that when it was happening for my candidate it really, really rubbed me the wrong way, and I can't see why it should any different for Clark supporters.

All I'm saying is that the "recruitment" threads probably tick them off too, and just out of respect they should be spared that kind of thing. If they're really interested in choosing another candidate they'll do it in their own time.

Just my 2 cents.

6. As long as the primary spread stays wide
I'll be voting for Wes. It's the least I can do for him.

I'm not committing to another candidate for a few days or more. I need to be more settled in my head for that. I will be supporting another candidate, absolutely, and voting for the nominee in November. But unless my primary vote is going to make a difference, and it doesn't as things now stand, I'm giving it to the man I wish above all else could be president.

Ah, shit

10. I already did.
I just sent in my absentee ballot for the Florida primary - for Clark - and, no, I don't consider it a vote wasted. He's a wonderful person and I'm proud to have registered my support for him.

Whoever is the democratic nominee will get my vote in November.

5. No way!!!!! Flame them until they cry!!!!!!!
I am, of course, kidding.

I respect Clark, and I enjoyed watching his campaign. No matter who I supported or favored, I liked watching all of our guys get in there and campaign. It made me proud to be a Democrat.

I thought all of our candidates brought a good position to the debates, and I think they make the eventual winner an even stronger candidate to go in and face Bush (and beat him mercilessly).

Hell, I even felt bad for Lieberman when he officially withdrew.

Clark has class.

And, like all of the candidates, I would like to see them somehow involved in the new Democratic (and democratically elected) administration, if at all possible.

7. Very Good Idear.
I'm really angry about this whole situation, and I would actually anger myself more by doing something like that.

The fact that Clark dropped out while Kerry is "surging" is unbelievable.

12. Thanks, LDS --
I like all our candidates, for different reasons, and am now simply ABB. As a Clark supporter/volunteer/contributor until a couple of hours ago, however, I'm not ready to think about another commitment just now.
