I kid you not.

It's an AP story that makes sure to mention that the Donner party left from Springfield, IL on their fateful journey to the Sierras out west. Did you also know they hanged blacks there, there were race riots and of course, political corruption was rampant there too? I bet there is a Muslim community and even some homosexuals there as well.

Springfield. The article failed to mention the obvious... that's where the Simpsons live!

1. I didn't know that
I had a trucker friend who used to call me every time he went over Donner Pass, to tell me he had plenty of food LOL.

I was thinking about going over to Springfield this a.m., but it sounds like its going to be a circus over there. Nothing like when John Kerry showed up around here, and you could walk up and shake his hand :(

3. Up-side-down Pyramid story
Fascinating way it starts positive and slowly bounces on a narrowing field to crime, bigotry only to end in doom at a point of the grotesque, cannibalisms. Eminently well-written to subtly taint Obama's image. A for effort.

4. The city's horrid racial history is one of the reasons Obama is doing his announcement there . . .
Of course, unlike Ronald Reagan, who kicked off his 1980 campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, where three civil rights workers were murdered in 1964, with a speech on States Rights (the very issue underlying the murders) to a virtually all-white audience, Obama is going to use his kickoff speech to highlight how far we've come as a nation and to talk about racial reconciliation.

Yay, Obama!

5. That and the Lincoln reference....
If you've ever been to Springfield (I have), you can't move an inch without seeing some reference to good Old Abe.

The Lincoln Presidential Library is actually pretty darn cool...a holographic section of the museum showing civil war history complete with rumbling chairs that shake when cannons go off...

7. I'm torn
I'm only about 1 1/2 hr away. If the museum is open it would give me added incentive, though I did promise my brother I'd fix his computer at 8:30 when he gets off work :(

I've got a newspaper column in my genealogy stuff someplace..

Abe gave a speech in front of my GGG Grandpa's store in Vermont, IL. It tells about his legs being so long that the little kids kept chasing each other back and forth through them while he was speaking.

9. Isn't Monday (Feb 12) Lincoln's birthday?
I guess it wouldn't do to have the big announcement on a Monday, but it ties in nicely that it's this weekend. I'm surprised the AP story didn't mention it.

Mercury is going Retrograde.

Oh no.

YOU know what that means...

Toodle - ooo Obama. Next time, do like republicon Ronnie Reagan and get a competent astrologer on your team !

Say what you want about Reagan, he had impeccable timing -- and moved his agenda forward with elan.
