OBama and Edwards better ramp up their campaigns if they intend to stay in the race.

not meant to be derogatory at all-

I like both OBama and Edwards..

I'm just saying... they need more people out there to get ahead of the BS..

I just posted this article from Joe Conason in another thread ripping on OBama!

Ghosts of dirty tricks past

The right-wing smear campaign against Barack Obama, with its telltale twist of linking Hillary Clinton to the attack, is classic Watergate.

19. With all due respect, these are the DEMOCRATIC debates.
Meaning debates among the DEMOCRATIC candidates. The viewers will be common sense Democrats looking for the right candidate, and I assure you they were the ones who thought Bush was an idiot in the debates in 2004.

Comparing the Democratic candidates debates with Democratic viewers and voters shouldn't be compared to the Bush/Kerry debates.

11. Obama has been keeping a low profile before the announcement for the past month.
he has intentionally lowered his profile since his vacation and just doing his senate stuff.
This would have an effect in light of all the Hillary coverage.
Not so, starting Sat. when he announces.
We will see Hillary's numbers after this weekend.

15. Pre-announced?
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 10:09 PM by Kerry2008
You mean the little video on his website saying hey I'm making an exploratory committee and I'll announce down the road? Didn't Hillary announce her intentions through her website in a similar video, and she too has an exploratory committee according to her website.

Obama will probably get a nice bump from the announcement, maybe. It's the debates that I'm most concerned at. Once they begin, Hillary's numbers will even out a bit and depending on how well the other candidates do many of these people not satisfied with Hillary will realize there are other candidates out there besides her.

I think the days of Hillary double digit leads are soon to be over, and things will tighten up in the next two to three month and then all the way till next year.

18. Yes that...
It will not be a shock to anyone that he is running when he announces on Feb. 10...so I think the bounce will occur, but will be limited...

I agree the debates will be crucial...however, I have no doubt that Hillary will do quite well...and while I expect the numbers to bounce around a bit...I don't see anything right now (with the caveat that there is a long way to go) that would seriously jeopardize her current standing in the polls...

In fact my guess would be that her negatives would drop...as people see she is not the ogre portrayed by Republicans and the media...

22. We'll see how she does in the debates.
Personally I think she is going to have a tough time stealing the show. John Edwards and Barack Obama, like them or not, know what to say to get people excited and energized. Wesley Clark will be credible on the Iraq War, and dealing with foreign policy issues. And if Gore enters, and I don't think he will, that blows everything else out of the water and all bets are off!!

I think she'll lack in the opportunity to shine throughout the debates, and while thats not the end all, I think she'll learn this is going to be a tough mountain to climb. Not saying she can't climb it, because she can.

It's going to be very interesting.

Try to hamstring her or Obama or any other Democrat here with all your might, give it your best shot. 46. Maybe because he isn't running.
He was in 2003 though, and he happened to win the nomination despite being behind in all polls before September 2003.

Perhaps polls done 11 months before the first primary aren't a very good predictor of who will succeed in the primaries.

47. How would Obama do if they polled a state with black people in it ?
Just curious, MA, ME, CT, and VT are 90-98% white. Obama showed quite well to not have even officially announced yet. How will he do in the South where some states are 30-40% black ? I want to see a South Carolina poll, since both Iowa and NH are 96-97% white. If Obama can get 15-20% in those places this early he has a good shot :)

I'll go out on a limb and say 9/10 of the people in this country couldn't tell you how the government works, who their elected representatives are or who any of the candidates are at this point except for maybe Hillary and that is just because she has been around in the limelight for 15 years now.

Of those 9/10, 50% might vote, so I'll say yes, race will play a part in peoples' minds, those voting for or even against him on that fact alone. The guy is charming, good-looking and has a great smile, that will take him very far in the short attentioned, shallow world we live in.
