The traveling press aide to Gov. Jon Corzine is leaving the administration for a top spot in the presidential campaign of Democrat John Edwards.
Teresa Wells, 28, is to begin her new job as deputy communications director at Edwards' North Carolina headquarters in early March.
"Working for Governor Corzine has been one of the most remarkable opportunities and experiences of my life," said Wells. "New Jersey is my home and Governor Corzine is a mentor and friend. I've thought long and hard about making this move, and wouldn't leave if I didn't believe John Edwards should and will be the next president of the United States."
A lifelong Essex County resident, Wells lives in Livingston with her parents, New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells and prominent defense attorney Theodore Wells. She is best known for her quiet but ever-present role at Corzine's side during key news conferences. Previously, Wells worked on Corzine's gubernatorial campaign and the presidential efforts of John Kerry and Bill Bradley.
