To Clark Supporters Tonight from a Dean Supporter
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 12:26 AM by slinkerwink
I truly hope the news of Clark dropping out isn't true because he is the only other outsider in this presidential race. I've always admired Clark for what he had to say about *resident Bush, and I loved that FauxNews interview where Clark laid a total smackdown on that guy who insinuated that Clark wasn't being patriotic.

I know I had my own doubts about Clark, but I came to understand that those doubts weren't true because why else would Clark be saying things like that about Bush if he was really a Republican?

Clark, along with Dean, presented a clear alternative to Bush, and I've always hoped for a Dean/Clark, Clark/Dean ticket. Tonight, I don't know if that's going to happen. What I do hope is that Dean stays in all the way to the convention so that grassroot supporters can be heard on the convention floor, and I hope Clark supporters will be there also.

You guys have been classy, and your support of Clark was one of the best support I've ever seen given for a presidential candidate. You poured your hearts, minds, and money into the Clark campaign because you believed in a future with Wes Clark. That's something to truly admire. Clark got in the presidential race because of you guys, and it's not your fault that he's getting out of it. Fate has conspired against the outsider candidates and their supporters in this race. Maybe one day, we'll have a true President that is borne on the efforts of the grassroots, but first, we have to start locally.

First city races, then district races, state races, governorship races, and then......the Presidency.

Mark my words----one day, I will work to make sure that a grassroots candidate, not that of the DLC, gets elected to the Presidency of the United States. It might not be Clark or Dean this time around, but I am laying the foundation for the future with my efforts. I believe that Dean can make it, but it's a long hard climb----I'd rather go down fighting with my man.

You guys have fought and fought for your man, and that I admire. Kudos to Clark supporters. :hi:

The long fight is not over yet for me, and I hope it won't be over for you guys when you find another candidate that you believe in.

4. I count Kucinich supporters as outsiders as well.
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 12:30 AM by BurtWorm
Don't forget the Kucinich supporters. He may be "inside" but he's outside at heart. You can't get much more outside than a guy who lives here:

PS: This is really where Dennis Kucinich lives. His stock went way the hell up with me when I learned this.

5. Slinkerwonk, youre the best
I really used to hate to see Clark threads from Dean supporters a few months ago. But not now.

You have been a really shining example of how to represent a candidate and Gov. Dean is lucky to have people like you in his corner. I wish you and your candidate the best.

7. Apparently it is true that Wes is out.
That in mind, I'd like to compliment you on the way in which you conducted yourself during the last few weeks. A lot of folks on DU could learn from your example.

As for me, I'm outa here until November.

My guy is gone and so am I.

Ciao

16. Me, too, slinker. You said it well.
Tonight I just feel sadness inside. All our candidates have given it so much of their heart and soul. I feel sad for the way the machine works, as well. It is just rolling right along, I fear. I feel it is so predetermined. That is one of the worst parts of all this.
I did not expect to feel this sadness when they began dropping out, so I was caught off guard.
It hurts.

Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 12:39 AM by Richardo
...in the relatively short time you've been here. :wow:

Thanks for those words - we Clarkies have a lot to think about...

I only take comfort in what Will Pitt observed a long while back: That this field of candidates was one of the strongest in my long memory and that any of them would do a great job leading this country back to the high moral ground it once held, and restore the prosperity its citizens deserve.

23. You guys have been real troopers for your candidate.
I really admire the way you've totally dedicated yourself to your candidate, and I too came to admire General Clark as well. He truly became a great candidate in my mind when he started speaking out strongly and truthfully against the horrors this administration has perpetrated on us. Both you and he have my respect and admiration. I'm truly sorry he's leaving the race. He is a brave and good man and a far better candidate than Kerry.

24. Thank you, slinkerwink.
It was Dr. Dean that originally gave me hope that someone could actually stand up to W. And I hope that he is in it right to the end, right to the nomination. I think he was the first one to show us that we all have a voice in this process. And look at what he did. I hope and pray for the best for him, for you, and for all of us.

I hope Howard gives them hell as long as possible! I respect the hell out of him for always saying what he thinks! We owe him a lot. He was my voice, speaking out against the war and for that I will always be grateful.

27. I am so saddened by the news!!!
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 01:08 AM by Lisa0825
I was on my way home from the Richard Morrison kickoff party (takingontomdelay.com) when I heard.

I see Dean, Clark, and Kucinich as the outsiders, and I have a lot of respect for all of them. I immediately gave Clark more respect (next to Dean) because a friend who I highly respect is a major Clark supporter. I am one of the political newbies you hear so much about, and had I not investigated Dean and felt so connected to him so early, my friend's influence would probably have been enough to completely pull me into the Clark camp. I respect my friend's opinion as a life long Democrat very much, and the few reservations I had about Clark, she gave me solid answers about.

I really wish Clark had remained in the race. I would more enthusiastically support him than Edwards or Kerry. I really believe that all of our candidates have made a huge contribution to this race, and will make the eventual candidate stronger. I'll miss Clark as a candidate, and I hope he'll be as outspoken in some capacity, either as a potential part of the new administration, or in a leadership position in the Democratic party.

Clark supporters, be proud of the work you have done. You have been a part of the awakening.... as have I. Keep the revolution going.

All my respect and regards....

Lisa

And one of these days, I hope the grassroots people win one.

for your thoughtful words. You're right ONE DAY we will prevail. :toast:

I'm just especially saddened because I'm on the other (older) side of 50 and fear the change needed won't happen in my lifetime. Guess I'm impatient too because I so want the satisfaction of being around and aware to savor the moment when the media whores, the corporate whores and especially the political whores get their just due.

34. Well Slink,
Tonight I break my sword. I wish all the best to Governor Dean. He was the one voice that spoke for me when all others were silent, but then again you know that, I've posted this before.

On our defeat and the media struggle we were in, I will quote as a Southerner for you two quotes from Robert E. Lee.

First on our campaign:

"We made a great mistake in the beginning of our struggle, and I fear, in spite of all we can do, it will prove to be a fatal mistake. We appointed all our worst generals to command our armies, and all our best generals to edit the newspapers."

And in Honor of Governor Dean (who is the most FRANK person I have ever listened to) and out of respect for him from us here in the South.

"You must study to be frank with the world: frankness is the child of honesty and courage. Say just what you mean to do on every occasion, and take it for granted that you mean to do right."
