This is not the first time Senator Biden has made racially insensitive remarks
Biden's Comments Ruffle Feathers

WASHINGTON, July 7, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(CBS/AP) Facing criticism, potential 2008 presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden has been forced to explain his recent remark that "you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."

On a recent edition of the C-SPAN series "Road to the White House," the Delaware Democrat is shown shaking hands with a man and boasting about his support among Indian-Americans.

"I've had a great relationship. In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking," Biden said.

The clip made its way through cyberspace this week and caught fire in Washington, where Biden is known as one of the more long-winded senators.

1. When you run your mouth as much as he does...
you're bound to say some really stupid things. Even if he said stupid shit 10 percent of the time, it would still be a lot.

2. LOL. I was just thinking the same thing.
Reminds of when my eldest was small and people were so amazed at how well she spoke.

At one point, my husband mumbled: "If you talked nonstop, you'd get it right at some point, too".

3. Speaking as a (many years ago) military brat, who spent most my
formative years, from 7-18, overseas I can testify that when you spend a LOT of time around other accents, you pick up those accents to some degree. When I first came back to the states people said I had an English accent. When I moved to the south, I was informed I had a midwestern accent. I visit family in Iowa, and they say I have a southern accent.

I can see that all he was saying is that the Indian immigrants are haveing such an impact on his state that people (presumably non-Indian descent) have daily contact with those immigrants.

This is a non-story.

On the subject of accents, where do you think the American southern accent came from?
