a family visit with Al Gore and a few other ramblings
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 06:43 PM by welshTerrier2
i'm posting this solely because I think Al Gore fans will really enjoy watching it (see link below). i sometimes worry that too much is made of personality and not enough is made of "bottom line" policy but i enjoyed watching the video and thought others would as well.

i am desperately searching for a candidate i can support. to say the least, i am not very taken with the current crop of those who have declared. some of them i've already ruled out (even if they get the nomination - don't ask) and others i'm still researching. I like Al Gore. Al Gore has spoken passionately about what it means to safeguard our democracy. He often refers to remarks he's made about how America should be as "corny". It's not corny at all to me. What issue should be more important than average citizens taking their country back from the greedy profit-seeking abusers who control far too much of what happens in Washington?

Another major issue for me has been this damned war. It's destroying this country and threatening a much wider war ... and all for oil and greed ... some have argued that Gore was and is strongly opposed to the war in Iraq. There is no other way to say this but to say that i am not fully comfortable either with his pre-war position or his current position. I know his supporters strongly disagree with me on this but that's how i see it. To be sure, Gore's position was "nuanced". He was strongly opposed to bush's rush to war before the IWR vote was taken. It is not clear, however, that he was opposed to invading Iraq; at least not to me. After the invasion and after many of bush's lies became public knowledge, Gore was an outspoken critic of bush's lies calling them not "bad intelligence" but an intentional deception of the public. I give him a ton of credit for making the statements he made during some very dark days when few others were willing to go as far as Gore did. Still, he did not call for the withdrawal of American troops as I had hoped for. For some time now, my position has been that I will not support anyone who does not strongly oppose the continuation of the war. The "we're stuck there" crowd will not get my vote. On the other hand, I find many of Gore's attitudes and positions very appealing. It's a bit of a conundrum for me. For my support, he would probably need to speak out more on the war than he has. I am a long way from making a decision.

anyway, here's a campaign video that was mentioned on today's Randi Rhodes' show on Air America. It was an unreleased campaign video made way back in 1999. It's not a political video and has almost no discussion of policy whatsoever. It's primarily a visit with Al and his family. Hope you like it.

2. Great video - I've heard that it was shown at the DNC
convention in '99, but that some of the #@!* consultants working for the DNC/Gore campaign advised against showing it during prime time when the convention was on TV.

It would have done a lot of good for counter-acting the corporate media lie that Gore was "stiff". Idiot, surfaced-fixated, scum that the corporate media are. :puke:

3. You should cross post this to the video forum
... so it hangs out there awhile and gets some mileage.
