The "surge" WILL work, why? because W told them to (Wow!)
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2007/01/its-even-better-than-kos-reports.html

Markos reports the following, then read on because I have more and it's good:
In an interview, Pelosi also said she was puzzled by what she considered the president's minimalist explanation for his confidence in the new surge of 21,500 U.S. troops that he has presented as the crux of a new "way forward" for U.S. forces in Iraq.

"He's tried this two times — it's failed twice," the California Democrat said. "I asked him at the White House, 'Mr. President, why do you think this time it's going to work?' And he said, 'Because I told them it had to.' "

Asked if the president had elaborated, she added that he simply said, " 'I told them that they had to.' That was the end of it. That's the way it is."
Oh, it's better than that. When I was on the Hill on Tuesday, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) told us (on the record) the rest of the story. Apparently, Pelosi's final come-back to the president was the following:
PELOSI: He's tried this two times — it's failed twice. I asked him at the White House, 'Mr. President, why do you think this time it's going to work?'

BUSH: Because I told them it had to.

PELOSI: Why didn't you tell them that the other two times?

2. I see. Do it only when he says "Simon says".
In perfect keeping with his juvenile persona.

3. Man! Caligula "W" is even more delusional than I thought!
Next he will be punishing the ocean for some slight. "Give Ocean fifty lashes for insolence!" He has to be removed, he is too far around the bend. This is going to become an even more horrible nightmare if the military continues to follow this sociopath's orders. Someone has got to step up and say that Little George is not competent to hold the office of POTUS...

4. A rational hope is fading
Namely for those troops. Bush actually means to implement a suicidal policy, killing Kurds and embedded soldiers in a foredoomed deployment plan. Reason would hope delay would mitigate casualties since the rapid deployment is impractical and casualty laden. Going slow with show might be the rational plan if there was one.

I thought maybe, just maybe, the surge was simply a reinforcement to defend interests, discipline the Shiites mostly, as a preparation for the blowback from the attack on Iran. Are they really stupid and bloodyminded enough to throw them deeper into the crossfire? To use them as an invasion force against Iran? they were that stupid before the Iraq invasion, only the generals(now replaced) able to wring a partly sufficient reasonable force against the quick drop small coup force that luminaries like Perle and others announced ahead of time in not so secret conversations. Perhaps the only lesson that idiots are capable of learning all these years is that "if they had done it OUR way" would have worked.

I fear that is the motivation. They get to replay, unlike the Germans of WWI, with the original blitz plan. Only this time we have less superiority, less support, less of anything to back up our forward daring. As with previous incompetent players they MUST keep going, to win, to get it right their way, blaming everyone, eyes fixed like dazed gamblers on their gleaming, shrinking pile of winnings.

The scenario of those not bound by Powell coalitions, the UN, world opinion, legal trappings, military professionals. Bombs and more bombs. The A-card slammed down. Troops moving behind the winds to seize oil fields. Chaos and disarray among the Iranians. The death, this time for sure, of our dictator target. Bully the spin, ignore the threats. Just do it irrecoverably and the victory, part PNAC, mostly
oil cliques will laugh over the screams of millions and the ruin of billions and their future.

For humanity to let this advertised sin to continue is to turn the entire race into a functional lunatic asylum. And it has all happened before. And soon it will never happen again because idiots and the "sane" alike must perish from the face of the earth.
