Insight magazine to Barack Obama: Why don't you change your name?

Fresh off their hit piece disgrace, Insight mag is standing by their story. The things they say in their defense just make you scratch your head and wonder why this mag is taken seriously by any individual. National Enquirer is more credible than they are.



Here's their defense of their first piece:

The media uproar over our reporting reveals a media establishment choosing not to ask the tough questions about Obama's Muslim past: If he was raised in a secular household (as he claims), why does he have -- or retain -- Muslim names, Barack and Hussein? Were his father and stepfather as secular as he says? What is the exact nature of Obama's current religious affiliation and what are the beliefs and teachings of his current church in Chicago, the Trinity United Church of Christ? Does he adhere to these teachings or is he a Sunday bench warmer only? These kinds of tough questions need to be asked of all presidential candidates regardless of political party. This is the duty of a responsible press. We at Insight do not intend to shirk our responsibility -- no matter how often we are attacked.

Gee, you're given a name at birth be it christian, muslim, jewish, secular, whatever. Well, according to insight, you're supposed to change your name to make nice, make everyone happy if maybe hey, your name doesn't sound familiar. The funny thing is Hussein is actually not a muslim name, its an arab name. I've a few arab friends, who were born and raised by christian parents. Their parents name them Hussein. I for one I'm glad as hell the world is full of diverse people with diverse names.

Their magazine is one that use the name-change, and I suspect a lot of people here could come up with alteratives. My choice: since it's owned by the Rev. Moon ("Luna" in Latin), shouldn't it be known as the "Lunatic Fringe"...? Instant truth in advertising!

Hussein is an ethnic name, and not a spiritual one. I find demanding that someone change their name rather demeaning. I mean, Africans who were kidnapped and sold as slaves lost their names, and were given one by their master. Are they implying Barak should take a good "slave name", like Toby?
