Suggestion for new "Topic Forum" : Immigration
In looking over the topic forums I don't see a forum for discussing immigration (illegal and legal). If this has been suggested before, I apologize. If there is another method or more appropriate venue to request this please LMK.

Do others believe that it is worthy of a separate topic? Immigration reform may soon become a very heated topic in our Congress.

1. I'm curious....does anyone ever respond on this forum?
Ok I'm just a newbie who is used to dialogue on a local newspaper forum. Maybe my posts on this forum aren't worthy of a reply. But I see a big boring tendency on this forum to post only opinions and rarely a reply or to debate, except maybe to the original post. Hopefully opposing opinions are encouraged here.

To those that have expressed a welcome I say thanks. I'm not sure where one is supposed to introduce themself, which always seems more appropriate than just barging in with a reply or post. Maybe you need a forum for that too btw.

May I introduce myself?

This introduction is slightly belated as I’ve already taken the liberty of posting, and as mentioned above I have appreciated the welcome comments that some have posted. I’ve read the forum rules and would appreciate feedback from members and the moderators if my views are at all welcome here, knowing that any views expressed do not provide blanket immunity from being removed as a disruptor. At some point I would like to contribute and support this forum, but only if views such as my own are accepted and debated.

The simple political ideology tests indicate I’m liberal, but honestly I’m not a traditional liberal, which is why I’m posting this. I tend to be candidate minded as opposed to party minded which probably makes me more independent than what the truly party minded people appreciate.

I have strongly opposed Bush and the Iraq war from day one, and in fact can’t think of one thing that Bush has done that’s been good for the American people. He has screwed this country worse than any Benedict Arnold traitor that I know.

I believe strongly in helping those on the bottom and promoting a strong middle class and a strong America. I agree with those that put the people of America and their interests first, which means I oppose illegal immigration (is this a problem here?). I believe illegal immigration hurts every American especially those trying the hardest to survive, while it puts lots of money in the pocket of well to do business owners. I believe strongly in legal immigration that has the approval of the American people. I oppose amnesty as it rewards those that bypass our laws.

I believe in trade as long as it is fair and balanced. I believe in organized labor as it provides a balance of power between labor and business in the economy. I believe in equal rights and opportunities for all, but not more rights for some. I support gay marriage and am ambivalent on the abortion issue. That means I’d just as soon not see it done but I don’t oppose it. I believe women should have control over their bodies.

I believe strongly that government should be run using the same financial rules that any family has to use, and that is to spend no more than they earn. I strongly opposed Bush’s tax cuts. I have a mindset that believes multi-national corporations work very hard at using America when it is in their interests, but generally have no special loyalty to the USA, and Wal-Mart has not been good for America.

I try very hard not to be confrontational but I’m not perfect. That’s about it. BTW I’ve posted for some time comments in the DNC blog too.
