Please do not get too excited over the Libby trial yet...
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 03:03 PM by MN Against Bush
Because if you are this excited now, I worry you will all die of heart attacks later in this trial because the excitement has only just begun. Here is a reminder of a story that ran last month.

Cheney Willing to Testify at Libby Trial
Defense Says It Will Call Vice President

By Carol D. Leonnig
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, December 20, 2006; Page A03

Vice President Cheney is willing to testify in the perjury and obstruction-of-justice trial of his former chief of staff that is scheduled to begin next month, according to defense lawyers and sources familiar with his plans.

Lawyers for I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Cheney's former top aide, told a federal judge yesterday that the defense plans to call the vice president and expects him to cooperate. That would make Cheney the first sitting vice president to testify in a criminal case, presidential historians and legal experts said.

The defense is hoping the vice president can help rebut charges that his most trusted aide intentionally lied to agents and a grand jury investigating the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity.

Cheney's role in the case is a pivotal one, for both the defense and the prosecution. He was a witness to, and participant in, how the administration reacted in the spring and summer of 2003, when Plame's husband, former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, publicly accused the administration of twisting intelligence to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Do you realize what this means? What this means is that we will see Cheney being cross-examined in a public trial by one of the best prosecutors in the nation. If he tells the truth he reveals the administrations crimes. If he lies he is slapped with a perjury charge.

Stay away from the  because if your heart is beating with excitement now you don't want to clog up your arteries before it starts beating faster.

9. I think you are right
Cheney is his big target but because Cheney is so powerful he needs to really lay out the case against him to the public before the indictment is issued. If he did not do that the right-wing smear machine would kick into high gear to distort his case before he even had a chance to fully lay it out to the public.

Because Libby is so closely tied to Cheney's activities he has the perfect opportunity to get two birds in one stone here. I have a feeling that Cheney's testimony will almost certainly result in an indictment because he will be either forced to tell the truth or to lie. Either way Fitzgerald will have something to prosecute on, because the truth involves serious criminal activities and a lie is perjury.
