6. Then what did Rove give up to Fitzgerald?
I really think Fitz was ready to indict Rove 'way back when Truthout broke the news--but something happened. What sort of deal was cut? I mean, there has been no new indictments in the case--what did Rove give? Is he a witness for the defense or prosecution, btw?

14. Cheney.
And . . . as many months as have passed since the Truthout incident, one can assume that Fitz has got an airtight case.

He interviewed Rove four or five times, which is very unusual. Rove and Libby have pushed Crashcart under the bus.

Ah well, I can hope . . .

38. it may not be Rice, maybe someone else, and no I don't think evey
detail was orchestrated for this reason. but I do think after they outed Plame and Fitz was on to them, they had to look at the possible outcomes and plan accordingly. I seriously wou, or Fitz could get him indicted,ld not be surprised to see cheney leave for health or 'family' reasons and be replaced by someone wanting the Presidency. so not necessarily Rice.

There is no way Rice would be confirmed as VP. Absolutely no friggin way the Senate would confirm a lying incompetent such as Rice.

37. No, the new VP will be McCain, they need those pardons
it won't be Condi, remember how they hyped about Ford being a centrist, an all around
good guy, that pardoned everybody, they did that for a reason, they were warming up
the crowd for McCain, someone who is not in the cabinet but the Senate, who
will pardon them all for the Good of the Country.

Libby was a "Scapegoat?"

No he was an active participant in outing Valerie Plame at the behest of Cheney.

24. Even if he did lie, they will try to bring Rove into the fray...
which will open up testimony we may never have heard when it was aimed only at Libby. I think most of us believe Rove, Cheney, and Libby were all involved at the behest of the Big Guy. By Libby wiggling in his chair, we may get more than if he had taken the fall. Just sayin'.

28. Let's not get our knickers all tied in a knot here ...
The discussion centered on "to venture outside his normal job description and speak with reporters about Wilson" not covering up for Rove on the charges.

--- Wells also showed the jury portions of a handwritten note by Cheney around the time that Libby was first questioned by federal agents. It showed that the vice president was concerned that his longtime aide was being made a scapegoat by White House insiders after he had been asked to venture outside his normal job description and speak with reporters about Wilson. Wells asserted that the insiders' aim was to protect Rove, who also talked with journalists about Plame but who was not charged.

"Not going to protect one staffer, + sacrifice the guy that was asked to stick his neck in the meat grinder because of the incompetence of others," the Cheney note said, according to an excerpt that Wells showed the jury.

"You will learn from the evidence that ... that one staffer was Karl Rove," Wells said. "Karl Rove was President Bush's right-hand person in terms of political strategy. Karl Rove was the person most responsible that the Republican Party stayed in office. His fate was important to the Republican Party. He had to be protected.

46. What's so damned great about this?
It's not Fitzgerald who is asserting this point, it's the person defending himself against Fitzgerald.

The great Fitz has elected not to prosecute Mr. Rove, and Rove is free to continue conducting his treasonous business, as is the Vice President.

This is not anything we haven't already known for two years. All this is going to do is possibly get Scooter Libby off the hook, too. Great. Great work, Fitz.
