Just saw the CBS nightly news coverage: Kerry is a lock, Edwards
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 09:05 PM by AP
hampered by sticking to "populist, us vs them, anti-Bush rhetoric."

That's why I love this guy.

I hope the media continues to cast his campaign that way, and that he ends up on top. 'Cause that's what he is all about. Populism. Or more accurately, flowing power down to people who work for a living.

1. Anti-Bush* rhetoric? We can't have that, now can we?
I mean, really! Anti-Bush* rhetoric from a Democratic candidate?! Well, I never! I'm just gonna take to my bed... </sarcasm>

2. I know. It was BS. They were trying to make him sound like Dean.
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 09:10 PM by AP
There's some truth to it, but they really were trying to reduce his candidacy down to something that only constitutes a part of what he's all about, and then took the other part and tried to smear it by calling it populism.

It's a media angle that Edwards can work with and win with.

He can really turn it on its head.

3. That's not what the exit polls show.
Interesting that the news media are very interested in these polls when they support the point of view that the media want to get across, but ignore them otherwise. :-)

The exit polls for both VA and TN show that Kerry is winning almost strictly because he is perceived as more likely to beat Bush (for unstated reasons) and he has more experience. Not much you can do about the latter if the voters have decided that more Senate experience is what they want. Other candidates get high marks for other things; Edwards got high marks for his positive message and that voters believed he cared about people.

6. Exaclty. You know the media is afraid of the guy whose strength they try
to undermine. If people like his positive message, then cast him as an angry guy who's "anti."

This, to me, is an excellent sign that somebody is afraid of Edwards. This is so much better than being ignored.

4. Flowing power?
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 09:36 PM by HFishbine
Was Edwards flowing some of that power down to people who work for a living when he voted against raising the minimum wage or for making it harder for people to declare bankruptcy?

7. Apparently yes (and please don't make this personal -- it's not about my
choice of words).

That bankruptcy bill didn't pass thanks to efforts by Dem senators like Edwards who loaded it with poison pills, and I'll bet you 100 dollars that that minimum wage bill was tacked on to something fascistic.

9. Oh sorry (really)
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 09:37 PM by HFishbine
I thought that was a campaign slogan. I wouldn't have said anything about it if I'd known that was an original expression. I'm off to delete it now if there is still time. I disagree with just about everything you have to say about Edwards, but it's not personal. I'm sure you're a great person.

8. Hampered---ha!
His rhetoric is pure gold. He's been positive and civil to his opponents, setting an example any candidate would be wise to follow.
If anything's hampering him it's definitely not his message.

10. OT - did you notice some "technical difficulties" during AWOL report ?
Just when they were saying that no one had "observed" theshit in Alabama and he claimed to have been working on "odds and ends" - the screen went kind of crazy, with some scrambled video. Then it was back to Dan Rather, who didn't respond in any way. Quite the coincidence.
