4. K & R #5 - off to Greatest Page.
This may not have any real teeth to it, but it's a symbolic gesture that tells the world not all Americans support this pResident and his irresponsible and illegal actions.

6. I think it is only the beginning.
Some argue to go right to cutting off the money, but IMO this step in necessary.

from the ABC article:

"The resolutions in Congress seemed likely to be largely symbolic and they would not affect the Pentagon's war budget or challenge the president's authority over U.S. forces. Such votes, however, could be a shot across the bow to Bush.

The resolutions also would help Democrats measure GOP support for more aggressive legislative tactics, such as cutting off funds for the war.

Such a vote puts many Republicans in an uncomfortable position. They will have to decide whether to stay loyal to an unpopular GOP president and risk angering voters disillusioned by the war or buck the party line."

8. It's symbolic, Bush will send the troops anyway.
Then what: a few more months, several thousand more lives, then another debate? A non-binding resolution and cutting funding would make be an act of Congress forbidding such activity.

31. I wish we would cut the funds right away....
We already have the "surge" soldiers on the move to Iraq. We have to move fast!

Dems MUST get the point across that 'We WARNED Bush we weren't going to fund this surge -yet he sent the troops anyway...ALONG with Bush tying billions to rebuild Iraq'. ...We have to let the world know that Bush is holding our soldiers hostage!!

I'm not a big Kerry fan, but I think dems should revisit the quote, "I voted for the $$$ before I voted against it". We HAVE to get out the word that THE MONEY DOESN'T GO TO THE TROOPS!!! ..the fact that most Americans already know our troops had to arm their own vehicles...or had to buy their own vests...America will believe us and they'll get behind NOT funding the surge.

:patriot:

22. Good, make them go on record
Then when a binding resolution comes up they will be more likely to support it because they would look pretty pathetic saying they oppose the policy and then refusing to do anything about it. Get this one passed quickly, and then immediately introduce the next one that will actually put an end to Bush's plans.

25. Hey! What's that hissing sound??. . .
Must be the air coming out of Joe Lieberman. That alone would be a great reason for plenty of (R) votes on this resolution....

Well worth the price of admission.

26. John Cornyn, what a tool.
However, some Republicans denounced the proposal as a political ploy to embarrass the president. Sen. John Cornyn, a Bush supporter, predicted the resolution would fail.

"If my Democrat colleagues are truly opposed to the mission in Iraq, then as the new majority in Congress they should schedule a serious debate and a vote on cutting off funding for our troops," said Cornyn, R-Texas.

Hagel shot back: "To somehow come up with a conclusion that it shows a lack of seriousness, I am a bit befuddled by what the Texas senator is trying to describe."

Nice to see a repuke call out another repuke's strawman.
