08 Presidential Candidate Selector...who should you support?
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 02:16 PM by AnOhioan
http://www.selectsmart.com/plus/select.php?url=08frontrunners

Here are my results...

(100%) 1: Sen. Barack Obama (D)
(91%) 2: Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D)
(87%) 3: Gov. Bill Richardson (D)
(85%) 4: Sen. John Kerry (D)
(84%) 5: Retired Gen. Wesley Clark (D)
(78%) 6: Ex-VP Al Gore (D)
(77%) 7: Ex-Sen. John Edwards (D)
(77%) 8: Sen. Christopher Dodd (D)
(74%) 9: Gov. Tom Vilsack (D)
(70%) 10: Sen. Hillary Clinton (D)
(63%) 11: Sen. Joseph Biden (D)

I did not include the Repubs for obvious reasons.

While my heart supports DK, my head is willing to listen to Obama.

Not that I am saying anyone should take the results as gospel. :)

1. Why not support both? Right now I support one but, if someone
came along I liked I'd support them as well.

nuff said. I do know a few of my coworkers who are Republican and salivate at the thought of Obama. At least one of them is very excited about him being the next President.

I find it interesting that we differ (somewhat) on others, but are both 100% Obama--I always wonder about the methodology of these things, even as I find them amusing.

Edited to say--wow! 8% for Brownback (as opposed to the expected 0%)--what kind of wingnut am I....!? ;)

I'm still not wild about Kucinich, even though he's at the top of this list. Gore is still my #1 choice. This is interesting, though, because other than DK, all of those ranked 90% and above are people I would consider voting for in the primary. Richardson, I still need to learn more about, but I think he has possibilities. I feel Obama would be better as VP than President. The bottom three, tied at 78%, are probably accurately my bottom three. And Biden, Clark and Edwards are pretty accurately portrayed as my #6, #7 and #8,although not necessarily in that order.

I have to look at Richardson's record, in this case, because I never considered him seriously. For the rest, it seems close to where I lean.

15. I Agree.... If No Definitive Answer Is Known To ANY Question...
then the poll CAN NOT be all that accurate! If each candidate had their views known and they were posted, I think the outcome would be entirely different.

While I like Richardson in a way, I SURELY don't agree with him on many things, yet he rates higher than Edwards, but there are a lot of answers that AREN'T answers.

33. I suspect if you look at the Edwards answers
you will then find errors - because you seem to like his real positions. (I get Kerry pretty high on my list - but when I looked at the Q&A I could find glaring mistakes - and I think Gore s done even worse.)

13. I'm not sure that picking a candidate is about their stance on the issues so much
as whether they have a good moral compass and an ability to make good decisions with complex information. The trust factor, if you will.

Every time I take one of these polls I wind up with candidates who I think are stating an opinion on, say, gay marriage or immigration, more out of political expedience than truly held belief.

Here is mine and I have been hoping Gore would jump back in. I copied the chart into excel and compared Obama and Gore and the only real difference was the Free Trade stance. I still hope Gore gets back in.

16. This Site is a Crock ...
I did the survey and to my surprise my lead match was OBAMA (100%).
Odd, I thought. I know my views are out of sink with OBAMA's on at least a few issues.
And dont ya know, when I checked OBAMAs stand on the issues we differ on more than just a few, quite a few in fact ...
So maybe OBAMA is my most likely choice, I wouldnt know from this stupid web site.
What I do know is the 100% rating is a complete crock of sh*t.
This website undoubtedly is set up to perpetuate the OBAMA myth that is suddenly being thrust on us by our media.
Dont beleive the hype.
Check it for yourself before buying the bumper stickers.

17. I'm an Obama supporter and I agree
My results showed 100% Obama, but the fact that so many others' results are exactly the same is suspicious. Especially the 100% part. It seems that for two people to each score 100% for a particular candidate, both would need to have had identical responses. Given the priority variable for each question, I'm more than skeptical that so many of us responded exactly the same.

I think I remember this site from 2004, but I don't remember it seeming so skewed. If I recall correctly, Kucinich came out on top for me then. Perhaps that's who the survey administrator supported then, too.

If the person who developed this survey is an Obama supporter, he really should have more faith in his candidate. I know I certainly do.

25. It does seemed somewhat biased
It's not just the results that are biased, some of the questions were worded in a biased way to, take #15 as an example.

(15. What would be your ideal candidate's position on IMMIGRATION?

Would support the interests of groups such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform which "seeks to improve border security, to stop illegal immigration, and to promote immigration levels consistent with the national interest--more traditional rates of about 300,000 a year."

Would oppose the interests of groups such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform)

They could have gone into more detail about the second option to make it more appealing.

Anyway here's my results.

(100%) 2: Sen. Barack Obama (D)

I understand Obama and Kucinich being next to eachother, but I'm puzzled by the Richardson ranking. I think he's wrongly getting rated higher because he's listed as "Unknown view" on so many issues.

26. For some odd reason, Obama comes up at the top of my list regardless of what
positions I stake, except when I make clearly Republican positions just to test the artificial intelligence and except when you toggle those last two questions (fresh face/ previous positions), which no one who is really reasonable should care about.

Not sure that this is really a good indicator of candidate preferences.

28. My Republican choices are....
This poll seems biased. My lowest Democratic choice (Joe Biden) beat my highest Republican match by 25 points. That can't be a coincidence! Anyway, the Republicans I should consider voter for, in order, are...

(46%) Gov. George Pataki (R)
(46%) Gov. Mitt Romney (R)
(44%) Sec. Condoleezza Rice (R)
(40%) Ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R)
(40%) Gov. Mike Huckabee (R)
(34%) Ex-Rep. Newt Gingrich (R)
(29%) Sen. John McCain (R)
(26%) Sen. Chuck Hagel (R)
(25%) Sen. George Allen (R)
(18%) Rep. Duncan Hunter (R)
(14%) Sen. Sam Brownback (R)
(13%) Rep. Tom Tancredo (R)

Hmmm... Pataki, Romney, Rice, Guiliani... Notice that all the sleezeballs end up at the top of the list there? Also look at the sleezeballs gathered there at the bottom of the list (Tancredo, Brownback, Hunter). And then look at the ones in the middle of the list -- Gingrich, Hagel, McCain -- hey, they're sleezeballs, too!

36. I don't need no stinkin' selector....
Edwards 100% :D

I admire the rest of the field very much, but I rather do my own research and listen to the supporters!

Unfortunately, some supporters for "other" candidates aren't doing their job very well

41. Sen. Feingold ...
He is the only one showing any leadership to cut off funding of the Iraq war now. We will need him in 2008 if the current democrat leadership continues not to speak out nor defund the war. If Shrub's Iraq supplemental is approved next month, by the people we elected in the 2006 mid-term elections, the war will still be raging in 2008 and we will need Sen. Feingold's leadership. Rep. Kucinich would be my second pick.
