Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 03:30 PM by jenmito
The House voted to lift restrictions for federal funding of ESCR, but two votes short of veto-proof majority...253-174.

1. Two votes can be swayed or negotiated.
Hopefully, anyway.

3. Actually, the veto-proof number is 290.
We're way short.

4. this will throw a wrench into the plans of the pro life crowd
Should they now commence with a protest against using embryonic stem cells for research which may lead to a reduction in human pain and suffering or should they proceed with their plans and rally in Washington and tell the president that they want more death, destruction and despair in Iraq? Its just so tough believing stuff.

5. Now that scientists have discovered
amniotic fluid contains usable stem cells, there should be no objection to the funding by anyone.

7. I watched the debate and...
those in favor of it KEPT pointing out that only "embryos" from IVF clinics that were already created and marked for being discarded anyway will be used, and the opponents just ignored that over and over, falsely claiming it's creating life to destroy life. It's not. It's studying cells that WILL be thrown out no matter what.

8. "Creating life to destory life"
could that logic be applied to parents of Marines and Soldiers? No disprespect to those folks or their kids as I am a Vet myself but conservative logic consistently boggles the rational mind. Throw it in the trash don't use it for research.

9. Good point...
Very true. Even some "pro life" Repubs. (and Dems.) were saying they were voting for this bill because they ARE pro-life and this bill would give hope for a better life for many, using frozen embryos that WILL be thrown out anyway.
