McCain to be Bush's VP?
I have not seen this in the news anywhere, but I think it is a huge possibility. Rove & Co. know that they have rubbed many moderate Republicans the wrong way. Certainly putting McCain on the ticket would bring in at least some of those disgruntled moderates. "Okay, at least the ticket isn't TOO evil". If Kerry ends up being the nominee we are going to have an amazing VP pick that isn't just for regional or ethnic purposes.

1. Nah.
McCain wouldn't ally himself with that loser if the Good Lord Jesus came down & asked him himself. I hope.

I think McCain would have a better shot running by himself against our Democratic president in 2008 -- not that he'd win, mind.

4. I would hope so too
but McCain is a party man. For all the praise he gets from Democrats, he votes with Bush most of the time and he always says the 'right' thing about the Republican party.

13. I don't know about that...
he's certainly fallen into line ever since the Invade Iraq Party. He looked old and beaten campaigning for the madman in NH, too. I think he's been put in his place somewhat.

Still, I think it's a bit of a longshot that he'd agree to be VP -- but I guess you never know. He's lost any shot at hetting in the White House otherwise...

2. McCain would never do it
You should have seen him on the Daily Show before the NH primary. He was pretty harsh on Bush's policies and could barely bring himself to say that he was actually going to NH to support Bush there. There is no way he would associate with that crowd, though I'd certainly rather see him pulling the strings than Cheney.

3. I don't think Cheney is going anywhere. The loyalty between those
two nuts is to strong. I think if push came to shove, KKKarl would go before The Dick. For some reason I don't see The Dick answering to KKKarl, more like the other way around probably.

10. I dunno
All signs in the Valerie Plame scandal are pointing to Cheney's office. A desperate Bush might try to use Cheney as a fall guy. Whether McCain would climb aboard a sinking ship with a guy he doesn't particularly care for, I don't know. McCain is a calculating as any politician.

12. Yes but, he publicly disagrees with the pResident to much.
I understand this is a big no no in this administration. McCain is to much of a Maverick (O'Neill) to last long in the administration.

5. It won't happen. McCain refused the possibility all through 2000
and Bush hasn't grown on him since then.

Kerry is a better friend of his than Bush is.

However Giuliani or Tom Ridge are still possibilities and possibilities we DON'T want

22. Giuliani would be tough
But fortunately, he's pro-choice and pro-gay rights, so he won't pass the Republican sniff test at the national level.

Even if they decided to overlook it, they'd be forced to tap-dance away the contradictions.

As for Ridge, I think most Americans are underwhelmed by his Department, so he's not as strong as he once was.

6. He'd pick Colin Powell before he'd pick McCain...
After all, Sen. McCain has been his most vociferous Repub critic in Congress--why pick your biggest adversary within your own party, especially given Dub's vindictiveness?

At least Colin Powell has regularly rolled over and played dead for him! :eyes:

B-)

7. I think your assessment is incorrect.
It's not the moderate republicans that the bushies have rubbed the wrong way, it's the conservative and ultra-conservative republicans that bush has rubbed the wrong way. Moderates are quite happy with him. Bush is considered by most hard core conservatives to be far too liberal. The only thing they agree with him on is the WOT.

I don't think we'll see McCain on the ticket.

8. If Junior picks anyone new for his VP it will be Colin Powell
You can bet your soul on that. And if it happens, and they win, then we can speculate on the Chris Rock theory.

9. Until you posted, I had thought "there's no WAY they get rid of Cheney...
...without a huge backlash".

It appears now more than ever that Cheney may be implicated in any number of scandals, to the point of possible indictment (Halliburton, CIA leak, lying about Iraq). He is dead weight, and even conservatives are starting to admit as much. Up until now, I've thought if he were forced off the ticket because of his problems, it would just look really BAD for Bush.

But then I remembered his ticker.

If he's going to be replaced, I'd guess that sooner rather than later (before any of the S*** hits the fan on these investigations) he has another "heart attack". Of course, he will wisely decide not to run in 2004, and he'll be replaced on the ticket by McCain, Guliani, or someone who can cast a more human (and scandal-free) face on the White House.

Even if the investigations continue, people will say "Whattya want? He's stepping down! Plus, the guy's at death's door! Give him a break!"

11. No way
First they hate each other. Second McCain is on the WMD intelligence investigation and the last thing they need is for that to be seen as biased

14. McCain is a loyal Gooper, but I don't think so
For starters, there's his own ego. The man has presidential aspirations of his own and I don't think he wants board what looks to be a sinking ship.

Secondly, I don't think he's forgiven Bushco for their smear against him in 2000.

17. Nope, Cheney Stays
I don't think McCain wants any part of being VP.

Furthermore, I don't think Bush & Co. can afford to muscle Cheney out unless he wants out.

In this administration, Cheney wears the pants. He's not going anywhere.

20. McCain has been kissing Bush's ass lately...
Which I find so hypocritical considering what was done to him at Bush's hands in South Carolina. McCain said on the Daily Show a few weeks ago that he was going to New Hampshire for Bush, etc.. How he stays republican, after what was done to him by his own party.. is beyond me.

23. * is a career destroyer. Look at the wake of bodies behind him.
McCain is at the end of his career, but I don't think he wants his legacy to be associated with this trash.
