Video of Nancy Boyda, KS, speaking at the DNC conference...
shortly after the election. I have noticed a lot of criticism of her because of her recent comments on ABC to the effect that Bush has the power about the war. She also said people who voted for him twice should have expected him to act this way.

I read at Kos that she organized anti-war protests in KS...which I imagine would take more guts than what we do here in our area.

I also forgot that DFA supported her in her first run. Dean brings that up, and he has met with her and knows her.

I think she, like many people new to politics, or not so new to politics...misspoke. I don't think she supports this war...if you watch her speak you simply can not do anything but be impressed that she ran because Bush is destroying our country.

"Democratic National Committee Meeting
DNC Chairman Howard Dean addressed the Executive Committee of the Democratic National Committee at the annual winter meeting. Congressman-elect Tim Walz of Minnesota, Congresswoman-elect Nancy Boyda of Kansas, and Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Executive Director Andrew O' Leary addressed the committee providing their perspectives on the 2006 election. There was also a discussion of the 2006 election results and the Democratic National Committee's fifty-state strategy.
12/4/2006: WASHINGTON, DC: 1 hr. 4 min."

It is the bottom link on the page right now, but may move to the next one when more are added. Search has been down there for several days, so I had to scroll for it.

Nancy starts just after Dean's introduction at just before 23 minutes in. She is impressive, and I hope people give her a chance.

We tend to destroy our blunt-speaking politicians, and it is sad.

1. And Dean used Nancy's victory over Ryun in his recent e-mail "Consequences"
She was a little shaky at first but she really got good on the campaign trail. She's still new in the national spotlight but she'll pick it up. I'm a Kansan and I continue to support Boyda.

3. I hope people watch that video I posted.
She impressed me so much that day. She is very confident and determined. Somehow I think she is going to make a fine congress woman.

Dean introduces her about 22/23 minutes in.

I have not seen any tolerance for her statements, even though she formed anti-war rallies in Kansas. I think that takes courage.

She is more Democratic sounding than many Florida Democrats. My hubby is threatening to totally drop out of the DEC because they all try to sound so Republican. She does not sound that way.

4. Boyda was a republican until 2003
We have gained a lot of Dems here in KS who have crossed over from the dark side known as the republican party.

I am pretty irritated with Boyda over what she said the other night but I am going to watch her voting record and see what she does. She definitely spoke out against the war during her campaign, so her comments on ABC were extremely disappointing.

5. In the video from C-Span I posted she seems to have potential
to become a very strong congress person. I was so impressed by her that day when I watched this interview.

I just wanted to show another side of her, because she has really been blasted. We tend to do that to each other a lot.

6. Well what she said was really really stupid
Let's hope she learned a thing or two from this mistake.

7. I have heard people say that about every politician in our party.
We are so judging of every word they speak, that we don't even give them a chance.

I don't know her, I just know I was impressed the first time I heard her speak at that DNC meeting.

We don't give anyone a chance to learn or make misspeaks or missteps. Bush is in total charge of this war and whether we stay or go....and yet everyone at DU is blaming the Dems for it.

They can not quit funding the troops that are there without risking great anger and wrath. Yet it seems to be all their fault.

I guess I get angry when I remember 2003, and what we did to each other then. We are doing the same thing now big time.

9. If we stop the funding,
wouldn't the troops have to come home?

8. I don't think she supports the occupation, either -- I thought right away
that she meant that remark to be sarcastic. I agree that she misspoke out of inexperience with the media, but I wish she hadn't said it.

Thanks for the video & for trying to set the record straight.

12. She must not be a lawyer
This is basic Constitutional stuff. Only the Congress can declare war (never passed a war resolution in Iraq OR Vietnam ) and only the Congress can fund a war.

Somebody please read to this lady Article II of the Constitution, please???

14. You need to tell GWB that he doesn't have the power.
http://www.nybooks.com/articles/19092

He probably signed a signing statement that said he did. He thinks he has the power to do it.

Me...I don't know. But when you have a coup like this in the upper realms of government, he just goes ahead and does it.

13. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this!

I know Nancy Boyda did not mean that she supported a troop surge, that she would support the troops if there was a surge is what she meant. Congress cannot vote to stop the war, this nation allready had the "rights" to go to war via previous treaties/etc., as funny sounding as her comments might have been(I think she was just nervous as this was literally her first real national interview) I think once you break them down they do make sense.

She is my representative, I worked very hard to get her elected, and can't wait to come across her path again and get her re-elected in 08.

15. You are welcome. I was impressed by her and hated to see the attacks.

She is probably more conservative on social issues and maybe some others, but her intelligence and enthusiasm speaks well for her. Also I heard the DNC requested she and Tim Walz come and speak at that meeting, maybe among others...I am not sure.

16. It wasn't an attack...
I just posted a very powerful video I found on crooksandliars and huffpost. I do hope that she was being sarcastic or taken out of context but she needs to answer for that video clip.

I also found out that a lot of Kansans will make sure she's really not like she seemed in that video.

It really shows a different side of her.
And I was speaking in general terms, other blogs and forums were doing it also.
