Wonderful to see Nancy Pelosi cradling her infant grandchild on the House floor.
Ok, call it sentimentality if you will; but I found the image of Nancy Pelosi carrying around her blanket wrapped baby grandkid while on the House floor - dishing out instructions at the same time - to be a beautiful picture! She clearly has mastered the art of multi-tasking, as have so many talented and dedicated parents.

At one point she had all 6 of her grandchildren (and other kids) joining her behind the podium as new House Speaker. Staged...of course, but as a dad of two wonderful teenage kids myself, I appreciate that the most powerful woman politically in U.S. history has her priorities right.

And with Nancy at the helm, it feels that my children live in a safer world today then they did yesterday. For that I'm very grateful. :)

3. Beautiful images, especially compared to the evil leadership that has come from
the House for the past 12 years.

It shows that the dems are the ones who truly care about families and children. I thought it was a brilliant and poignant move on Pelosi's part.

holding the baby that I've found so far but she is sitting instead of walking around.

Sh@# - I previewed and see it doesn't just show up AND I see the link doesn't work - perhaps because it is in the slide show on Yahoo News for Nancy Pelosi. It is pic 104 out of 127. Another baby pic is 124.

8. Good stuff- difficult/impossible for the GOP/media to criticise it...
...so what if it is staged-in a sense it is nit-she clearly loves her family...

...the GOP/media should have no problem w/ highlighting the whole "family values" thingy...

9. one of the most emotional moments for me in recent years..real, heartwarming, tearjerking moment...
i was so proud and exhilarated...and relieved...i count that moment with nancy and the children around her yesterday as one of the finest moments in our political history...i didnt expect to cry...i really didnt... seeing her instead of that evil looking hastert ..and all of the other downright despicable men who have stood at that podium was such a relief and brought me hope...i will never forget the image....

17. You're joking, right? She referenced former Speaker, Tom Foley, who
attended, I assume, to see history as it was being made.

I thought that Mark Foley was still being hidden away in rehab somewhere.:hi:

18. Not kidding. She said something like, "I want to acknowledge Mark Foley who is here today..."
Which I guess meant, "Hide your kids! Fuckin' Mark Foley is here today!"

And nobody better say it was Dave Foley, from Kids In The Hall.

23. He was Speaker of the House from 1989-1994
A democrat in the US House and former Ambassador to Japan. Was in congress from '65-95. He was the first Speaker not to get re-elected to the position.

13. It projects a message that there is some serious stuff ahead in the childrens' worlds
This was right out of Moral Politics. The Democratic Party message is that we have shared goals and shared efforts--a maternal view of our social obligations. Wonderfully contrasted with the bush* authoritarian father message.

14. beautiful perspective. perhaps this is a woman who cares about
"after she's gone". so much of the behaviour and attitudes of many political flacks reveals a complete disregard for time past their life time. that has always amazed me; making decisions to protect your dollars in ways the endanger future air, water, and soil of the planet. the clarity of the exonn mobil deceit and the vigorous denial and censorship of government science by this administration (and past ones i am sure) has gone over the top. where do they think their grandchildren will be able to live after they've lined their pockets with enviornimental disaster? is that what patagonia represents for the bush family? escape? ..... whew, sorry, this rant just slipped out!

back to mellow and loving the pictures of "nannah" pelosi. i also love your name RiverStone; it evokes so much of life's sculpting of each of us through the years of our lives. you feel like good energy.

25. 7 generations....
In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations. This is an ol Iroquois Confederacy saying which was/is a guiding principal in making decisions.

I'd like to believe we at home and on The Hill could adopt similar wisdom. That's what I read into your words.

BTW, thanks for the kind words on my name & energy nannah.

peace~ :)

The wingnuts must be cringing right now. But we all know mommies (and daddies) are great at multi-tasking, negotiating and looking at the big picture.

19. You know, I didn't like it
at first, having all those grandchildren running around where they clearly "don't belong."

But then I thought about it a bit and decided that it's PERFECT. We all know that having women in government changes government and for the better. It changes the agenda and what gets discussed, it changes the subjects to be sure to include women (and childrens') perspectives or needs, and it changes what gets passed (and how).

Women are the mothers and grandmothers of the world. How wonderful that a Grandmother (an elder, a crone) not only be in that role but proudly include her own family for the ceremonials. It was a powerful symbol, and I celebrate what it means for our country.
