Yahoo List: Announced, Exploratory, Widely Mentioned, Not Running
I found it interesting that no Republican has officially announced while a few Democrats will. I guess they're waiting for someone to determine for them whether they're the right kind of Republican to be accepted in their new reality or if they want to run against the grain and try to take back the reins of their party.

Republicans:
Officially announced
• None to date

Established exploratory committee (date of filing with the Federal Election Commission)
• Attorney John H. Cox of Illinois (Feb. 13, 2006)
• Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) (Nov. 16, 2006)
• Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (Nov. 20, 2006)
• Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback (news, bio, voting record) (Dec. 1, 2006)
• Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy G. Thompson (Dec. 13, 2006)
• Former Virginia Gov. James S. Gilmore III (announced intention to form exploratory committee on Dec. 20, 2006)

The rest of the list -lots of names- for both parties is here:

3. I thought some asshat San Diego congress critter
officially announced.

Duncan Hunter? Right? It was covered by all the newsies for about 10 seconds before they returned to kissing Rudy's ass while they give McCain and the Newt handjobs.

6. well, according to WAPO
Washington Post

BAXTER, Iowa — California Congressman Duncan Hunter, among the least-known Republican presidential candidates, touted border security and national defense during a visit to Iowa.
Hunter, outgoing chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, spent Saturday morning pheasant hunting with some veterans and active military members after mixing in some politics at a pancake breakfast.
“I believe in a strong national defense, a strong and enforceable border, a two-way street on trade,” said Hunter, who was making his first visit to Iowa since announcing his presidential bid in October.

so they think he announced. I remember a presser he gave standing down by the docks in San Diego and I'm pretty sure he said he was "announcing his candidacy for President... blah blah blah", not that anyone cared then or cares now.

7. Thom Hartmann thinks that Hagel will emerge as the r-thugs darkhorse..
..and will take the late lead in their primary away from McCain & others.

Or at least that's what Hartmann's hunch is according to his radio program last week...

10. I said that in past posts. To me, he's the one to beat.
Giuliani stands no chance. McCain's dark side, inconsistencies, and skeletons will come out. Romney's record won't comfort conservatives and they won't trust him to actually fulfill promises. Hagel has a long record and can appeal to moderates and conservatives alike and is likeable.
