for my money, this is the most impressive guy for our next president - John Edwards
Nobody has impressed me like he does since John Kennedy. I think this guy is as sincere as they come and he is very able (former trial attorney) to take on the GOP knife fight specialists in a campaign (seems to be a necessary quality).

From his web-site:

http://johnedwards.com/

This campaign is about each of us taking responsibility for our country's future -- and ensuring America’s greatness in the 21st century.

It is a campaign not just about what we can do in the White House -- but what we can do on the way.

We all must take responsibility and take action now to:

Provide moral leadership in the world
Strengthen our middle class and end poverty
Guarantee universal health care for every American
Lead the fight against global warming
Get America and other countries off our addiction to oil
If we want to live in a moral and just America tomorrow, we cannot wait until the next President is elected to begin to take action.

Tomorrow begins today. Join us.

1. If he promises one of his first acts will be a full withdrawal from Iraq, then I'll vote for him.
I don't see that on his list. The use of the words "moral and just" are ambiguous; I don't like it when Republicans use them, I wish Democrats wouldn't.

2. Media is already saying he didn't even win the debate with Cheney - and unbelievably
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 04:42 PM by blm
even a Dem like Allan Lichtman is pushing that lie. There is no way in hell that Cheney won that debate at all, let alone decisively, the way they are playing it.

Everyone knows the VP candidate is supposed to do the slicing and dicing during the campaign. I thought both Kerry and Edwards did their fair share of that, but, corpmedia ignored it in favor of the storylines Rove was feeding them.

3. Allan Lichtman a dem?
I don't know that much about him, but I've never thought of him as a liberal or a dem. I could be wrong.

15. Is he a college professor?
I remember reviewing a lecture of a Professor Allan Lichtman for The Great College Courses (popular college professors on tape for sale). It was about the rise of conservatism in the late 20th Century. I thought it was definitely biased toward conservatism, and at one point he discussed "the dissatisfaction of the ethnic whites with liberalism." He was clearly discussing racism but didn't address it as such. He similarly omitted any reference to George Wallace, who I consider an early driving force behind the toxic "conservatism" we have today.

On the whole, I thought the lecture had some interesting analyses in it, but also had important holes in the analysis that appeared to be motivated to cover-up or minimize racism and sexism in the movement. I recommended that the company not publish it. (I think they did, anyway.)

I would never in my life think of that Allan Lichtman as a liberal or a dem. I wonder if he's another Allan Lichtman.

16. Here's a blurb on him from when he ran for senate in Maryland -

Allan Lichtman grew up in the inner city of Brooklyn, NY, but has lived in Maryland for 30 years. He and his wife, Karyn Strickler, have a child, whom they reared in Maryland. A professor of history at American University, Allan has testified as an expert witness in more than 70 voting rights and redistricting cases. He has lectured across the world, and his work has appeared in such publications as the American Historical Review, The New Republic, the Washington Monthly, The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Baltimore Sun. Allan has consulted for Vice President Al Gore and Senator Edward Kennedy. His six published books include The Keys to the White House, describing his “keys” system that has predicted the popular vote result in every presidential election since 1984. He has provided commentary on national politics for all major networks and was the regular political analyst for CNN Headline News. He has written a column on Maryland politics for 15 years.

5. .
That reminds me, to the time, I was very impressed with Edwards and his knowledge on pretty much all the issues. He was seen as something like a freshman while Cheney was in the game for several decades. I have to admit that I didn't expect him to do that well. Plus, what was seen as Cheney's strongest point in the whole debate (that he had never seen Edwards before), turned out to be a lie.

But then again, "the people" apparently didn't value Kerry's obvious intellectual superiority compared to Bush as well.

6. I thought it was obvious that Cheney was lying, and Edwards came out ahead on the matchup
but corpmedia spun it and is still spinning it as if Cheney won. I imagine if even one of the presidential debates had been close, the corpmedia would have declared Bush the winner.

11. I'm not an Edwards fan, but I don't support media lies against Dems to gain any
perceived political advantage. Media lies are to be FOUGHT, not used to jockey for position.

13. the MSM has to do it's part for THE PARTY (the only official party is the GOP - dontcha know)
Grover NOrquist used to give them talking points but I think they are so well trained at assuming the position he doesn't have to even do that anymore. (They're very good at ball-kissing! "Oh, can I have more Mein Nazi Overlord?")

The only one I know of who doesn't dance for THE PARTY is Keith Olberman (I hope he doesn't 'fall ill' like that other totalitarian watchdog that ex-Russian spy ).

22. edwards supporters have no bicker with Clark, but Wes's supporters
or many of them - not all - seem to have a fascination with Edwards.

Edwards has got birthmarks that follow him around less than some Clark supporters.

Not meant to be snide. Just think it is true. Don't think they thought about Bayh or Warner either.

14. In the 2004 campaign I especially liked how he handled the GOP media snapping-dogs.
They always like to come up with a question to make the Democrat squirm. Edwards would look at the interviewer with a rock steady gaze and answer simply, directly and with no hesitation or equivocation. :yourock: John Edwards.

But what really blew my mind is how he kept his cool when the GOP slime-balls would try to get him mad by saying something outrageous. He just kept his cool and answered distortions and insinuations with calm clarifications without getting pissed off. That's trial lawyer experience .. and character! - something Republicans know NOTHING about.

27. Remember him at the 2001 State of the Union?
There is a picture somewhere of him listening to GWB with a look of total disdain on his face with a FauxNews banner. Priceless.

21. Whatever happened to the Obama love-fest?
There are tons of posts today hi-fiving Johnny Edwards.
Last week it was all Barack H. Obama. Who is next? I bet
as soon as Albert Gore Jr. declares he is running in 2008,
we will all forget Obama & Edwards.

I have a few bottles of good Oregon brewed Merlot
waiting to be partaken. Johnny Edwards definately
deserves one bottle. When Hillary declares it will be
2 or 3 bottles.
