Why do we always elect legislators to an executive position?
Judges judge.
Legislators legislate.
The highest executive office should be a great leader, not a judge or a legislator.

Why are we always picking senators, congressmen, and governors for the presidency? When did this become a standard - after George Washington??

Wesley Clark would raise the bar for future presidents. We need people with expertise in leadership, not scamming votes, comprimising your values, shoveling pork to your neighbors, and trading votes for hand-outs.

It reminds me of corporate america where you often get the most qualified production person promoted into management; not only have you just lowered your human capital by removing your best production person, but whether the new manager has a modicum of leadership skills (or even people skills) is often considered irrelevant until long after they have destroyed the morale in the department and killed productivity. Why do we do it? (p.s. Read my book if you hate corporate america: http://home.comcast.net/~freshlaundry/Solid)

Clark IS the saviour of the universe!

We had such a huge, amazing wealth of talent on the ticket - and we have thrown it away for the safety of the status quo and the glowing comfort of platitudes. It makes me sick.

2. Actually
This argument works equally well for Dean. A governer is an executive, isn't he?

On the other hand we've had great presidents who have come out of congress. For one thing they have a better idea of how to get bills through; as opposed to Generals who are used to leading largely by fiat.

Not to say that I don't like Clark, I do. I just don't find this argument particularly convincing.
